Pakistan PK Government: ‘Power, gas may be disconnected if parents reject vaccine for kids’

An offer they can’t refuse: ‘Power, gas may be disconnected if parents reject vaccine for kids’
By Umer FarooqPublished: February 22, 2015

The prospect of living without gas and electricity could serve as a catalyst to convince sceptical parents to allow their children to be immunised against vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs).
Although the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and federal governments have joined hands to fight nine such diseases in the province and tribal areas, the K-P administration has also taken steps to convince the public.

There were recent protests in which people threatened not to immunise their children against VPDs if the government failed to ensure stable gas and electricity supplies to their areas. However, the government has decided to fight fire with fire and said those who refuse to vaccinate would have these utilities disconnected.
Snippety snip
“Several ideas have been floated, including a particularly interesting one,” said a well-placed source at the K-P Directorate of Health. “The government could enact a law to cut gas and electricity connections of those who refuse to vaccinate their kids,” he told The Express Tribune.
The official, requesting anonymity, was confident every single child would be vaccinated once such a regulation was introduced. He added although the idea was in the initial stages, the interest of stakeholders would see it take practical shape and become a success.
He admitted overall vaccination coverage was low, but said new ideas were being floated and some of them had the potential to combat the rising number of polio cases and other diseases.
The health directorate official said that the idea for disconnecting gas and electricity connections will not only be implemented during Sehat ka Ittehad but on a regular basis during campaigns in the province.
“Sehat ka Ittehad is a two-year plan being carried out jointly by the K-P and federal governments,” he said. “However, the provincial administration’s solo campaigns are not time bound and that is why we are focusing on implementing ideas permanently.”
He added the objective behind ideas such as disconnecting the gas and electricity of those refusing essential life-saving vaccination is to ensure children stop falling prey to nine VPDs targeted by Sehat ka Ittehad and routine vaccination initiative.
When contacted, K-P Health Services Director General Dr Parvez Kamal told The Express Tribune his ministry was putting all its efforts and resources into eradicating diseases which pose serious threats to children. He also hoped the general public would benefit from the free-of-cost facilities at government hospitals.
“Yes, we have some very intelligent people in the health sector and different ideas are being tabled to prevent children from contracting diseases such as polio, which the provincial government plans to eliminate at all costs,” said Kamal.

Antihistamines & Fatal Arrhythmia

Carolyn Dean MD ND | Saturday, February 14, 2015

The European Medicines Agency says that “Physicians should take certain precautions in prescribing the first-generation antihistamine hydroxyzine (Atarax) to minimize the drug’s risk for potentially fatal heart arrhythmias.”

Instead, drug researchers just scratch their heads about the escalating side effects of drugs and issue ineffective warnings, to cover themselves legally, so they can keep selling the drug. They leave it up to the doctor to prescribe these unsafe drugs and then doctors suffer the guilt of harming their patients. I’ve spoken about the extreme “job dissatisfaction” of doctors in “An Epidemic of Doctor Suicides.”

I’m convinced that the cardiovascular drug side effects we are seeing today are the result of giving more and more drugs to an increasingly magnesium-deficient population. As more people develop magnesium deficiency, there will be more drug side effects. Drugs deplete magnesium – especially fluoride drugs – making the heart vulnerable to arrhythmia. After all, the heard has the highest amount of magnesium in the whole body. We will never overcome drug side effects until magnesium is properly measured with research-grade ionic magnesium testing and people are taking therapeutic levels of highly absorbable magnesium such as my ReMag.

Google atrial fibrillation and you’ll find stories that warn of: “The Global Epidemic of Atrial Fibrillation,” (Circulation – Dec. 2013). Other articles warn that there is no cure for heart disease or atrial fibrillation. There are epidemics of hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, migraine, anxiety, insomnia, muscle cramps – all because there is an underlying epidemic of magnesium deficiency. But instead of treating the cause – magnesium deficiency – the symptoms of magnesium deficiency are treated with more drugs.

What does Atarax treat? Anxiety disorders, sleep disorders, and pruritus. What mineral can do the job of treating these conditions quite nicely without any side effects? Magnesium.

Someone recently asked me why drug companies don’t add magnesium to their drugs to counter the side effects. I think if they did that would be admitting that they were causing magnesium deficiency in the first place. Also, some people would get the idea to just use magnesium and not the drug. Also, if they used magnesium drug manufacturers would choose magnesium oxide. It’s the cheapest form and it’s the main magnesium used in research but it’s only absorbed 4% of the time, so you can’t reach therapeutic levels before it causes diarrhea.

The choice to use magnesium is yours. This is my Valentine’s message to you: The Heart You Save May Be Your Own. When you use magnesium and find it helpful – be sure to tell everyone you know.

If you want to educate your doctor about magnesium – show them myMagnesium Miracle book. It’s loaded with scientific references showing the safety and efficacy of magnesium for dozens of health conditions. If you want to learn more about ReMag, go to RnA Reset and download the free eBook.

Allergic Rhinitis & Yeast

Carolyn Dean MD ND | Friday, February 13, 2015

In a recent CME (continuing medical education) course we were given clinical practice guidelines to treat allergic rhinitis (AE) AKA hayfever. AR is defined as an inflammatory response of the nasal mucous membranes after inhaling an allergen, such as grass pollen, dust mites, or pet dander, which can trigger symptoms that can include runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, and itching.

The guidelines for treatment of AR don’t even bother to remind doctors to ask about allergen exposure and how to eliminate them but cut right to the chase and say the first line of treatment is steroid medication sprayed into your nasal passages. The next step in treatment is antihistamine pills.

It turns out that AR is extremely common – the 5th most common chronic disease in the US affecting 1 in 6 Americans. It is the most common disease in children. Medical costs of the condition run from $2-$5 billion – half of that amount goes to prescription drugs.

Here’s my take on hayfever. Our nasal mucus membranes, including nasal hair protect us from things we inhale so that they don’t irritate us. Three things can go wrong – we are in an environment with a lot of pollen, dust and dander or our nasal mucus membranes are dried out or already irritated and thus susceptible to inhaled allergens.

To deal with the first problem – use air cleaners during pollen season, vacuum more often and put the pets outside. The second problem, dried out mucus membranes, occurs in the winter when the heat is on, or in terribly hot and dry climates like parts of Arizona. My free Module on Nasal Lubrication in my Completement Now Online Wellness program will tell you how to overcome this problem. (Use the password – nose – to access in The Members Only Area.

The third problem, I call Leaky Nose that may go along with a Leaky Gut because yeast (Candida, fungal) organisms are irritating the mucus membranes of the nose and the gut. When the nasal passages are involved they make you susceptible to tobacco smoke, the cleaning products aisle of the grocery store, perfumes as well as pollen, dust and dander.

The unfortunate thing about treating hayfever with steroid sprays is that they encourage yeast overgrowth. And one commonly used spray, Nasacort, has an extra fluoride atom attached, which may create magnesium deficiency because fluoride binds to magnesium making it unavailable. Another nasal spray, Flonase, has 3 fluoride atoms.

When the mucus of allergic rhinitis builds up, it can block the sinuses and lead to sinusitis. The two conditions are commonly linked. When you have symptoms of sinusitis you usually end up on antibiotics. Antibiotics kill off good and bad bacteria allowing yeast to overgrow. But here is a real zinger that many of you may not know: According to the Mayo Clinic “most chronic sinus infections may be caused by an immune system response to fungi.” They say that “Our original study linking chronic rhinosinusitis to fungi in the nose, which was published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings in September 1999, has been reproduced and confirmed by a sinus center in Europe (ENT University Hospital in Graz, Austria). The evidence was so convincing that the National Institute of Health (NIH) has given Mayo Clinic a $2.5 million grant to further investigate the mechanisms behind this immunologic response to the fungi. There are currently 16 studies at Mayo Clinic Rochester to further investigate the role of fungi in inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract.”

It’s been over 15 years since the first study and, I guarantee that most doctors don’t have a clue that nasal and sinus symptoms are fungal-related. What do you do in the meantime? Go on a yeast free diet – Paleo is the closest. Take a good probiotic – Prescript Assist is the best. Eat antifungal foods – garlic, onions; drink pau d’arco antifungal tea. Take the Completement Formulas: ReAline to help detox yeast; ReMag for inflammation and much more; ReLyte for the immune system; and RnA Drops. We’ve had many testimonials where people eliminated their allergies when they began this approach.

Should Kids Take Magnesium?

Carolyn Dean MD ND | Friday, October 1, 2010

Should kids take magnesium? Duh!! Of course they should. Kids can benefit immensely from getting enough magnesium in their amazing little bodies.

Let me give you an edited excerpt from my Magnesium Miracle book to set the stage.

“It’s not just adults who get anxious because of magnesium-deficient diets. Our children are also susceptible when their favorite foods are magnesium-deficient hot dogs, pizza, and soda. The stress in their lives – from peer pressure, academic and athletic performance pressures, worries about body image, the changes and hormonal fluctuations of puberty, exposure to negative events and violence through the media – also contributes. Even playing in a band (because of the loud noise) can be a risk factor! ADHD, autism, juvenile delinquency, and childhood depression are associated with magnesium deficiency, and some say these conditions can be caused by it.”

My favorite experience with kids and magnesium is in the ADHD and autism world. These kids can’t sleep, are constipated, experience twitching and spasming, irritability and moodiness – all symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Within days of taking magnesium, these kids are different. They are no longer constipated, they sleep better, they are calmer and more enjoyable to be with. It’s truly a miracle.

As for the safety of magnesium – there is no build up of magnesium in the body. If there is “too much” then they get the laxative effect which takes magnesium out of the body. But, don’t give a day’s worth of magnesium all at once. Spread it out. The best forms of magnesium for kids are:

  1. Magnesium Citrate Powder: You can find a powdered drink mix called Kids Calm at most health food stores. Add to water for a fizzy drink sweetened with organic stevia. For kids, the dosage begins at 1 tsp twice per day. You can get it half price online at

  2. Magnesium Oil (2 ounces) or magnesium Flakes (2 cups) in a bath. When magnesium is absorbed through the skin this way it has very little laxative effect. It’s supersaturated magnesium chloride in distilled water. Or you can dilute the magnesium oil by half and spray all over you child’s body and then in a half hour shower it off. You can get both forms of magnesium at LL’s Magnetic Clay. While you’re at it get some Clay and put that in the bath to help with the detoxification process.

The Magnesium Miracle

The Magnesium Miracle
Carolyn Dean MD ND

Every day I hear another magnesium success story…

My editor for the UK edition of The Miracle of Magnesium told me that as soon as she read my manuscript she gave magnesium to a friend who had severe muscle cramps. Her friend had visited several doctors and nobody could diagnosis her condition or offer her relief. Magnesium helped her immediately.

My book agent’s brother can’t believe how much his energy has improved on magnesium and his wife’s menopausal symptoms are lifting since she began taking supplements.

And every day I also hear distressing stories about magnesium deficiency. Just today walking along the beach near my home I met an 80-year old gentleman who asked me to sit and talk. Julius said he used to walk up and down the beach like me but now his arthritis prevented him. But he said he only began having symptoms of arthritis after taking medication for slightly elevated cholesterol.

Instead of a diet and magnesium, his doctor immediately put him on a cholesterol-lowering drug. When he began developing pain, which was obviously from the drug, instead of stopping the drug and giving magnesium to lower cholesterol, to help detoxify the drug, and also lessen muscle cramps, his doctor gave him a strong pain medication. And then his ankles began to swell and Julius said his doctor gave him a diuretic!

And so the story goes, one drug causing symptoms that demand another drug. That’s what doctors learn about in medical school: drugs. They don’t learn about diet and nutrients, so it seems that all they know how to do is prescribe drugs. Julius said he was going to tell his doctor to change his cholesterol medication, which, by the way, in several years had only dropped his cholesterol of 205 to 185. I told him to go on a cholesterol-lowering diet and take magnesium. Even though Julius said he was mad about having to take the drugs and he wished he had been given a diet in the first place, Julius said he would have to ask his doctor before taking the magnesium. And my heart sank, because his doctor probably didn’t learn about magnesium supplementation in medical school and would probably say it’s unnecessary.

Doctors know potassium deficiency is a danger for people on diuretics but they don’t acknowledge that magnesium is also flushed out in equal measure. Magnesium deficiency goes undiagnosed and unrecognized because until recently there was no accurate blood test for magnesium. Patients are warned to take potassium supplements or eat oranges and bananas, but no advice is given about magnesium. Magnesium is not as readily available as potassium; it’s deficient in the soil and most fertilizers don’t contain magnesium, so most foods are lacking. Also cooking and processing foods depletes magnesium. It’s found in whole grains, greens, nuts and seeds, but most people don’t eat much, if any, of those foods.

And yet, for some reason doctors think that we get all our nutrients in our very SAD, Standard American Diet and they don’t recognize the need for nutrient supplementation. It all stems back to a medical education that is funded by drug companies that have no vested interest in promoting nutrients. Vitamins and minerals can’t be patented and are relatively inexpensive. My research for The Miracle of Magnesium reminded me that all the metabolic processes in the body, ALL OF THEM, depend on vitamins and minerals, which act as necessary co-factors. Magnesium itself is a co-factor and responsible for the function of 325 enzymes; is an absolute requirement for calcium to be incorporated into bone; keeps toxic chemicals out of the brain; dances with calcium to create nerve impulses and muscle impulses; keeps muscles relaxed, including the heart and blood vessels, and triggers dozens of health conditions if it is deficient.

The Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) for magnesium is between 350 and 400 milligrams per day, which is just enough to ward off outright deficiency. But for optimal health and for the twenty-two conditions that are triggered by magnesium deficiency, perhaps twice as much magnesium is needed. One of the highest sources of magnesium is kelp, but one tsp. only has about 30 milligrams. One tablespoon of almonds has 33 milligrams. Because we probably don’t get nearly enough magnesium from out diet we have to investigate magnesium supplements.

I use several types of magnesium. However, I stopped using magnesium oxide in 2005 when I read a study that showed only 4 percent of the oxide form of magnesium is absorbed. That’s why magnesium oxide is a great laxative but if you want to stock up on magnesium you need to use other forms. I use magnesium citrate and magnesium taurate and also spray on magnesium oil after a shower. Magnesium oil is supersaturated magnesium chloride and because it’s used topically it doesn’t cause a laxative effect. And I find it really does work. I seem to have a very high requirement for magnesium and to get enough by mouth I can have a laxative reaction—but if I use magnesium oil, I only need to take half the amount of magnesium by mouth and therefore avoid loose stools.

You also have read labels when you buy magnesium products. For example a label may say magnesium taurate, or magnesium citrate, or magnesium glycinate, 500 milligrams, but when you look at the fine print on the back of the bottle you will notice the actual amount of magnesium is much less. The actual amount of magnesium in 500 mg of magnesium glycinate is 50 mg. Companies that make chelated minerals like magnesium glycinate and magnesium taurate claim that chelates are more readily absorbed. That may be the case, but how you tell is if they have less of a laxative effect.

The best way to tell if you are getting enough magnesium is the “bowel test”. You know when you have too much magnesium when your stools become loose. This, in fact, may be a blessing for people with constipation and is one of the many ways magnesium deficiency manifests. But, if you are like me and still get a Charlie horse or a heart palpitation when you don’t have enough magnesium, then reach for the magnesium oil.
The only contraindications to magnesium are caused in people with outright kidney failure, bowel obstruction, Myasthenia gravis, or heart block. Also, if you have a heart condition you may find that taking magnesium can lessen the need for heart medication and you should be under doctor’s supervision to guide this process.

The following 22 medical areas that magnesium deficiency triggers or causes have all been scientifically proven. However, since the publication of The Miracle of Magnesium people have sent me magnesium success stories that go beyond the following list. I’ve been told that magnesium has caused skin to become smooth, gums to heal, and improvements in sexual response. In the next edition of my book I’ll present updated research on the ability of magnesium to lower cholesterol in the same way as statin drugs but without the side effects. There is also evidence that magnesium is important for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. As I say in the book, if there you are able to only take one supplement—make sure it’s magnesium!

Magnesium Deficiency Triggers or Causes
The Following Conditions:

  1. Anxiety and Panic attacks- Magnesium (Mg) normally keeps adrenal stress hormones under control.
  2. Asthma- Both histamine production and bronchial spasms increase with Mg deficiency.
  3. Blood clots- Mg has an important role to play in preventing blood clots and keeping the blood thin-much like aspirin but without the side effects.
  4. Bowel disease- Mg deficiency slows down the bowel causing constipation, which could lead to toxicity and malabsorption of nutrients, as well as colitis.
  5. Cystitis- Bladder spasms are worsened by Mg deficiency.
  6. Depression-Serotonin, which elevates moods, is dependent on Mg. A Mg-deficient brain is also more susceptible to allergens, foreign substances that can cause symptoms similar to mental illness.
  7. Detoxification- Mg is crucial for the removal of toxic substances and heavy metals such as aluminum and lead.
  8. Diabetes- Mg enhances insulin secretion, facilitating sugar metabolism. Without Mg insulin is not able to transfer glucose into cells. Glucose and insulin build up in the blood causing various types of tissue damage.
  9. Fatigue- Mg-deficient patients commonly experience fatigue because dozens of enzyme systems are under-functioning. An early symptom of Mg deficiency is frequently fatigue.
  10. Heart disease- Mg deficiency is common in people with heart disease. Mg is administered in hospitals for acute myocardial infarction and cardiac arrhythmia. Like any other muscle, the heart muscle requires Mg. Mg is also used to treat angina, or chest pain.
  11. Hypertension- With insufficient Mg, spasm of blood vessels and high cholesterol occur, both of which lead to blood pressure problems.
  12. Hypoglycemia- Mg keeps insulin under control; without Mg episodes of low blood sugar can result.
  13. Insomnia- Sleep-regulating melatonin production is disturbed without sufficient Mg.
  14. Kidney Disease- Mg deficiency contributes to atherosclerotic kidney failure. Mg deficiency creates abnormal lipid levels and worsening blood sugar control in kidney transplant patients.
  15. Liver Disease leading to liver failure- Mg deficiency commonly occurs during liver transplantation.
  16. Migraine- Serotonin balance is Mg-dependent. Deficiency of serotonin can result in migraine headaches and depression.
  17. Musculoskeletal conditions- Fibrositis, fibromyalgia, muscle spasms, eye twitches, cramps and chronic neck and back pain may be caused by Mg deficiency and can be relieved with Mg supplements.
  18. Nerve problems- Mg alleviates peripheral nerve disturbances throughout the whole body, such as migraines, muscle contractions, gastrointestinal spasms, and calf, foot and toe cramps. It is also used in treating central nervous symptoms of vertigo and confusion.
  19. Obstetrics and Gynecology- Mg prevents Premenstrual Syndrome; prevents dysmenorrhea (cramping pain during menses); is important in the treatment of infertility; and alleviates premature contractions, preeclampsia, and eclampsia in pregnancy. Intravenous Mg is given in obstetrical wards for pregnancy-induced hypertension and to lessen the risk of cerebral palsy and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Mg should be a required supplement for pregnant mothers.
  20. Osteoporosis- Use of calcium with Vitamin D to enhance calcium absorption without a balancing amount of Mg causes further Mg deficiency, which triggers a cascade of events leading to bone loss.
  21. Raynaud’s Syndrome- Mg helps relax the spastic blood vessels that cause pain and numbness of the fingers.
  22. Tooth decay- Mg deficiency causes an unhealthy balance of phosphorus and calcium in saliva, which damages teeth. Material excerpted from Dean, Carolyn. The Miracle of Magnesium (2003 Ballantine Books: New York, NY), 2003. pp. 5-7.

High blood pressure due to congested liver

1. Liver functions, liver disease, and liver cleanse

Constant fatigue, age-related vision and memory loss

The liver is our body’s most important organ after the heart, performing many important functions including metabolism, detoxification, and formation of important compounds including blood clotting factors.  It also filters, regulates, and stores blood.  Stress, poor diet, and over-medication are common problems in our “civilized” lifestyle.  These may lead to stress and functional damage to the liver.  As a result, “sluggish” liver has become a common ailment.  It may affect memory, sleep, thyroid, body weight, and other body functions.

Both estrogen and androgen stimulate cell division.  Elevated levels of these hormones may lead to abnormal cell growth such as womens’ uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, breast cysts, and breast cancer or mens’ prostate enlargement and prostate cancer.  Since the liver is the principal organ which removes these hormones, its failure to remove them efficiently often leads to their accumulation in the body and is a major cause of the above diseases.

It has been known for thousands of years in China that liver problems are the source of many ailments.  However, hormonal imbalances are still little understood in Chinese medicine.  As a result, most womens’ problems are treated for blood and energy stagnation.  “Blood moving” herbs such as Don Quei, licorice, and ginseng are frequently used for reducing stagnation and stimulating circulation without realizing their effect on estrogen levels. These herbs may initially help improve circulation, but the elevated estrogen levels can eventually make the problem worse.

Liver functions

The liver is the most important organ after the heart.  It performs hundreds of functions including:

  1. Circulation: transfer of blood from portal to systemic circulation, activity of the liver’s reticulo-endothelial system (kupffer cells) in the immune system. The liver stores and regulates the blood and is responsible for nourishing every cell in our body.  Every part of the body depends on blood from the liver for nourishment and sustenance.
  2. Excretion: formation and secretion of bile for digestion and cleansing of blood; removal of ammonia from blood; excretion of substances filtered from the blood by the liver such as heavy metals or dyes.
  3. Metabolism: carbohydrate, protein, lipid (fat), mineral and vitamin metabolism; manufacturing and storage of many nutrients such as glucose and vitamins; production of heat through metabolism.
  4. Protection and detoxification: removal of foreign bodies from the blood (phagocytosis); detoxification by conjugation, methylation, oxidation and reduction.
  5. Production; formation of urea, serum albumin, glycogen and blood coagulating proteins such as prothrombin, fibrinogen and heparin; erythrocyte (red blood cells) destruction.
  6. Regulation of hormones: inactivation and elimination of hormones through the bile or urine.  Since estrogen and androgen are both growth hormones which stimulate cell division, elevation of their levels in the blood due to the liver’s failure to remove them efficiently can cause their accumulation in tissue.  This in turn may lead to abnormal growths such as uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, breast cysts and breast cancer, prostate enlargement or prostate cancer.  Excessive estrogen is also the most common cause of painful menstruations.

The liver also regulates body functions which affect emotional and mental activities.  In a diseased condition, the liver’s blood storage and regulatory functions are affected, and bleeding or clots can result.  When liver blood is deficient, nourishment to tendons and blood vessels is curtailed, the joints become stiff, and muscles become spasmodic and numb.  Blood deficiency in the liver may even lead to stroke, dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, deafness, fainting or convulsion.  When the liver blood is so deficient that it cannot nourish the eyes, night blindness or blurring may result.  If the liver is affected by stress or unhappy feelings, its vitality may be repressed and the sides hurt, and hiccups or hernia may develop.  The bowels may become constipated and sleep may be disturbed causing nightmare or insomnia [2].

The liver is the most emotion sensitive organ and its weakness is often connected to emotional sensitivity.  Individuals who are emotionally sensitive are more prone to weak liver even if they do not have a poor diet or are not taking medication regularly.

“The liver causes heart attacks” (Reference 3)

The structural position of the liver as a bridge between the returning blood from the digestive system and the lower part of the body to the heart makes the liver an important organ for the health of the heart. A weakened and swollen or congested liver can obstruct the venous blood flow to the heart causing heart palpitations or even heart attacks (see reference 3).  In other words a healthy liver is essential for maintaining an adequate amount of blood flow to the heart and the heart can only pump the blood it receives.

Age-related vision and memory loss: the importance of the liver

According to Chinese medicine, the liver and kidneys are the organs that “age” us.  That is why almost all longevity herbs used in Chinese medicine are liver and kidney tonics.  Without a clean, efficient liver and healthy kidneys, blood is not filtered clean. “Dirty” blood, loaded with toxins or waste products, is heavier and more sluggish.  This causes poor circulation and reduced capacity to carry oxygen and nutrients.  As a result, tissue and organ cells are undernourished.  If this condition persists the cells will deteriorate and inevitably age.  The eye and brain cells are especially affected because the blood has to flow against gravity to reach them.  In an article on Alzheimer disease in the January 1988 issue of the Mayo Clinic Health Letter, malfunction of the liver and kidneys was mentioned as one of the causes leading to Alzheimer disease.  Brain tumour, which physically blocks blood flow to the brain, was also cited as one of the causes.

The brain is only 2% of our body weight, yet it needs 20% of our oxygen supply.  If the toxin-loaded blood from a weak liver has limited capacity to carry oxygen, the brain cells are affected most.

I was born with a photographic memory, but I lost it at the age of 17.  Up to the age of 16, I could remember every single word in textbooks that I glanced through just once.  I was surprised to learn that I could not do that any more before I finished my high school.  Looking back, my very stressful childhood must have congested my liver and my inadequately filtered blood had difficulty flowing up to my brain to nourish my cells.  The fact that I fainted in school at the age of 11 indicated that my blood flow to my brain was already sluggish even at an early age.  As the years went by with stressful life, my memory kept going down hill and reached the bottom at age 47, the year that I was diagnosed with badly congested liver.  When I cleansed out my liver and gallbladder, changed my diet and started doing daily morning exercise, my memory improved.  I don’t think I will get my photographic memory back, but I did gain back some of my memory power and stopped its deterioration.

Constant Fatigue

When blood is loaded with toxins due to a weak and inefficient liver, there is limited capacity for the blood to carry oxygen and nutrients which are necessary for energy production.  The result is constant fatigue.  A clean and efficient liver which produces cleaner blood would help energy production because clean blood can carry more oxygen and nutrients.  Clean blood is also lighter; it flows better and results in better blood circulation.

Liver problems: liver congestion and stagnation

Liver congestion and stagnation are common liver problems.  Yet conventional medicine does not understand them and has no test to detect them.  In hepatitis or liver inflammation, liver enzyme levels in the blood are elevated because of the ruptured liver cells which contain high contents of liver enzymes.  However, in liver congestion or stagnation, liver cells are still intact and liver enzyme levels in blood are normal.  Therefore normal clinical tests which rely on liver enzyme levels as a measure of liver condition cannot detect liver congestion or stagnation.

I had blood tests performed a few months before I was diagnosed with badly congested liver by a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.  These tests showed no abnormal liver condition because they simply could not detect liver congestion.  I never knew I had liver problems until the Chinese doctor correctly diagnosed my congested liver condition.  This was the turning point for my health problems. When my liver became healthy again through a lengthy journey of self-healing (see the Liver cleansing section below), most of my chronic health problems disappeared.

According to Chinese medicine, all internal organs work as a team in the body; the liver is considered the “General” or “Chief of Staff:”.  Unfortunately, many of our modern prescription drugs are damaging to the liver or kidneys.  Over the counter drugs such as painkillers can also cause liver toxicity.  Therefore it is not surprising that many people over the age of 50 develop liver weakness or toxicity.  Even among healthy people who are not dependent on drugs, the liver has been filtering blood day and night throughout life without being “cleansed”.  Over the years, circulating blood has deteriorated in quality which goes unnoticed. The end result is often a feeling of sluggishness and heaviness due to poor circulation. Studies linking liver damage to excessive or long-term use of painkillers have been reported.

I come from a family with weak livers.  My father died of a stroke at the age of 59.  It was very likely related to liver problems as he had been diagnosed as having a weak liver.  My uncle became quite sick at the age of 67.  His extremities were dark in colour due to poor blood supply and he was very tired and weak. He went to see a western medical doctor and was told that he was beyond help and would not live much longer.  He decided to seek a second opinion from a traditional Chinese medical doctor who prescribed a liver cleansing herb (Chinese Gentian) which purges the liver.  He is now over 90 and is still healthy.

Weakening of the liver and eventual toxicity are usually slow processes.  In many cases the only sign of liver weakness is poor digestion and low energy level.  Most people pass this off as something that happens with age.  As a result they do little or nothing about it until it is too late.  Fortunately, nature has endowed our liver with excellent regenerative powers.  If we are able to understand the early signs of degeneration, we have an excellent chance of restoring it to optimal functioning with proper care.

Liver cleansing

The liver is the most important organ for hormone regulation. Because of my weak liver, I had severe hormone imbalance resulting in many “women’s problems”.  Although the Chinese medicine practitioner correctly diagnosed my congested liver condition, his treatment actually made my problems worse! He prescribed several herbs including Dong Quei, licorice and ginseng which contain plant estrogens. Although these had beneficial effects initially because they improved my blood circulation, the plant estrogens eventually aggravated my hormone imbalance problems.  I realized Chinese medicine does not understand hormones and conventional medicine also offers no help for my chronic liver congestion problems.  I therefore decided to treat myself, using my combined knowledge of clinical chemistry and Chinese herbs.

At first I tried several commonly used liver cleansing herbs such as dandelion, chrysanthemum and Swedish Bitters.  Dandelion and chrysanthemum were too weak.  Swedish Bitters helped for about 3 weeks but my condition became actually worse because there are 3 herbs in it which contain plant estrogens.  I searched Chinese herbal medicine literature (including some ancient Chinese texts) on liver remedies.  Several herbs are mentioned as beneficial to the liver including Coptis, Gentian, Self-Heal and ScutellariaChinese Gentian (Lung-tan Tsao) has been known for thousands of years to be useful in the treatment of fever, rheumatism and general debility.  It is also said to benefit the liver, aid digestion, strengthen the memory and give lightness and elasticity to the body.  It is primarily used in the treatment of acute hepatitis, acute conjunctivitis, acute tonsillitis, jaundice and most liver disorders (Ref. 2, 5 ).  It is also helpful in alleviating “sluggish liver” which can be caused by hormone therapy, medications or other problems such as stress or poor diets.

I recalled my uncle’s very positive experience with the herb Chinese Gentian and decided to try it.  From my research, I knew that the Chinese herbBupleurum increases “energy flow” in the liver.  I decided to use a combination of Chinese Gentian and Bupleurum prepared in an alcoholic tincture. I reasoned that alcohol is a better carrier than water for the herbs through the liver because the liver detoxifies water-insoluble toxins for which alcohol is a better solvent. Within a few months of using this mixture in conjunction with daily morning exercise and diet control, I experienced significant improvement as judged by reduction in menstrual pain from endometriosis, arthritic pain, stiffness and improved quality of sleep.  This improvement was gradual but steady.

I then came across information on apple juice fasting and olive oil/lemon juice liver and gallbladder cleansing.  I decided to give it a try.  The result was dramatic.  After just the first cleanse, my pains, allergies and arthritis all disappeared.  Apparently, malic acid in apple juice is excellent in dissolving the stagnant bile accumulated in the liver.  I was really amazed by the amount of stagnant bile driven out by the apple juice.  Details of the apple juice fasting and olive oil/lemon juice cleansing procedures are given in gallbladder flushing.

After my experience, a friend of mine who had gallstones for years decided to try this liver and gallbladder cleansing procedure. She did not get any result the first time.  There was one difference between her procedure and mine.  She did not use the Chinese Gentian and Bupleurum tincture before the cleansing, like I did.  I reasoned she probably had a congested liver (many people with gallstones are likely to have congested livers) which made it difficult for the apple juice to penetrate. She took my advice and used the Chinese Gentian and Bupleurum tincture for about one month before her second cleansing.  This time it was successful.

Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. When the gallbladder is occupied by stones, it tends to “overflow”, backing up in the liver and spilling out into the rest of your system.  I have subsequently prepared the Chinese Gentian and Bupleurum tincture in commercial form (called “Chinese Bitters”).  For certain conditions such as gallstone problems or absence of gallbladder (removal by surgery), it is best used in conjunction with another herbal tincture called Coptis which stimulates bile flow.

Restoring my liver health

Nutritional deficiency is a common problem for individuals with liver disorders. Most nutrients pass through the body without being assimilated if the liver is weak.  I was taking many vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements for years without any effect.  My improvement came only after my liver was cleansed and strengthened.  It was after my experience that I realized that supplements taken by individuals with weak livers may end up as waste products for the body to dispose because the supplements cannot be digested or assimilated.

As described above, I restored my liver to health in less than a year by cleansing it with Chinese Bitters, by liver and gallbladder flush and by eliminating all liver and kidney weakening foods such as white flour, white sugar, caffeine, chocolate, deep fried foods, all citrus fruits, tomato, banana, cold drinks and foods which chill the liver and kidneys.  I took supplements or foods rich in Vitamin B’s, C and minerals to nourish my organs and used the various Chinese herbs to increase “Chi” (energy flow) in the liver. I also perform daily morning exercises which involve stretching and deep breathing, based on an exercise regimen widely practiced in Taiwan called Y-Dan (a simple and easy to learn alternative to Tai Chi with only 19 movements).  A video DVD that provides clear, easy-to-follow instructions on Y-Dan is available for ordering.

Exercise stimulates blood circulation. When blood circulates better, all organs function better.  Stretching and deep breathing kind of exercises early in the morning provide the most benefit for anyone with sluggish liver.  According to Chinese medicine, the liver works hard to filter our blood between 1 to 3 am during our sleep.  A fair amount of blood may be still retained in the liver when we wake up in the morning if the liver is congested.  Early morning exercises help to bring the blood out of the liver into the circulating system.  One of the symptoms for the excess blood retained in the liver is waking up in the morning with stiffness or numbness in the fingers or dizziness due to lack of blood circulation.

Because of my high estrogen levels, I also had to avoid foods or herbs that have estrogenic activities such as Don Quei, Licorice, Ginseng, Royal Jelly, fennel, anise, flaxseed oil, clover, red clover, evening primrose oil, etc.  I avoided taking all pharmaceutical drugs because most of them are weakening or damaging to the liver or kidneys.

Stress congests the liver and constricts the blood vessels.  It causes poor blood flow and the whole body becomes sluggish. Furthermore, it is believed in Chinese medicine that anger (especially suppressed anger) injures the liver, grief injures the lungs, fear or fright injures the kidneys and worry injures the spleen. As mentioned earlier, all these organs support each other and work together.  Disharmonies in one of these organs tend to produce an imbalance in the corresponding emotions and vice versa.

According to Chinese medicine, cold and raw vegetables such as salads tend to weaken the spleen unless the individuals who consume them are robust and strong (“Yang” type person).  This could be the reason why many vegetarians look pale because of their weak spleen although Vitamin B12 deficiency may also be responsible. Also, most vegetarians eat a lot of salad, even though cooked vegetables are better to eat.  One of the common signs of weak spleen is dry lips or frequent thirst.  Chronic diarrhea or loose bowel may be another sign of weak spleen.  Since the spleen is an important organ for red cell production, weak spleen is a common cause of anemia, especially in cases that do not respond to iron supplements.

I suffered from heart palpitations since my early teenage years. I fainted for the first time in my life in school at the age of eleven.  It was due to a hereditary weak heart according to the doctor who saw me.  He warned me that I might faint easily throughout my life.  He was right in that prediction: I fainted more than 10 times in my life.  But I have not fainted again ever since the health of my liver was restored at age 47, and my heart palpitations disappeared as well.

When my liver became healthier my vision also improved and is actually better than it was in 1989 when I was still suffering from liver congestion. I had never used eyeglasses at any time during my life and I still don’t need them.  The Chinese have a saying: “The liver opens into the eyes.  When the liver is harmonized, the eyes can distinguish the five colors”.  Clean and nutrient-rich blood from a healthy, efficient liver can flow easily and nourish the eye tissues better.  Stimulation of blood flow to the eyes by massaging also helps.  I massage the pressure points for blood circulation to the eyes twice daily, morning and night when I lie flat in bed.  In this position blood does not have to flow against gravity.

I am in my mid-70s now and I can still read without reading glasses, although I do have difficulty reading very small print.

Do you have high blood pressure and kidney problems. Increase your potassium intake

Assalaamu alykum. Below is an interesting article.

I try to stay alive and not to fall in recurrent epileptic type fits with spikes of high blood pressure and swamping palpitations. Not that long ago i tried again an holistic approach to regain my health after the RECURRING high blood pressure, internal bleedings, uterus tum ores, never ending vertigo, weakness, collapsing , etc, did overpower my imaani and physical state.

Repeatedly i asked why i urinated so excessively and had spurts of severe palpitations, panic , high blood pressure?

i did suspects low potassium and MINnerals and high sodium after having gone through this with one previous hakeem treatment and homeopathic treatments.

but both, and western medical practice as well, had no clue and everybody told me a different thing: you have low blood pressure, malaria, low blood sugar, low HB….. but Nobody ever believed me that i had kidney problems , besides the hakeem who destroyed my kidney health further by pumping steroid in his medicines, diagnoses me wrong , did salt washes for my kidney and liver cleanse etc to rid my body of toxins. but i became severely malnourished and depleted of all minerals besides sodium chloride.

i tried to see many different doctors and get tests done, which is very difficult if one has not the means to do and neither any family support.

so this time , almost 3 month ago . the high blood pressure, palpitations, seizures and internal; bleeding almost killed me. But again i have been told its a kidney infection. this time trusting again another hakeem to get natural treatment as the previous years  my body has been destroyed by steroid treatment for asthma, which i found out i never had but a slipped dics which blocked the breathing center and a displaced belly button.

So i had been treated for more than 2 month with salt . large amount and had been prohibited to consume natural salta any kind but told yo use common table salts. I had been told i have chronic sinus and kidney infection thats why my blood pressure is high, i have breathing problems and palpitations.( i mentioned i had low potassium and high sodium when i came. so what did he do. put more sodium in me)

After some weeks i did experience after some  initially betterment, the same fall back as with the previous hakeem, homeopathic doctors, western medicine.

Myu dizziness, panic, palpitations, breathlessness, severe muscle cramps tight chest , etc. came back even wrth. i kept arguing with the hakeem and docs that i think my calcium, magnesium, potassium is too low.

but all said a different thing and rebuffed me. despite me having shown blood test. So this time our hakeem kicked m\e out his office after i said the mentioned problems are k\not leaving despite his f\diet( no milk and milk products, no potassium rich fruits and vegetables, no fish , eggs, fried, sweets, etc. just papaya and musambi, as its winter and everything else will make me very sick.) i kept telling him since his treatment of purging me and excessive urination i keep breaking my teeth, loose my teeth, developed cavities, get cramps, weaker, etc.ment. i have a lab test showing exactly what i feared.

the hakeem treatment and extensive use of licorice and salt in stomach and kidney preparations  .depleted me of potassium and stressed my liver and kidney even more, cause increase of uterine tumors and bleedings and my blood pressure spikes .( my liver , spleen kidneys  etc have been severely damaged by homeopathic treatments before the visit to the last doctor. i ended up with huge uterus tumors, lead poisoning, internal bleedings so i had to stay on a even stricter diet.)

The hakeem stated its Congestion and navel displacement. i have a lab test showing exactly what i feared. the hakeem treatment and extensive use of licorice and salt in stomach and kidney preparations  .depleted me of potassium and stressed my liver and kidney even more, cause increase of uterine tumors and bleedings and my blood pressure spikes .

I request dua from this ummat for my recovery and strength of imaan to deal with whatever Allah has decreed for me. 10 years i battle  life threatening conditions and stupid doctors of various fields. i listen to my brothers and sisters to trust doctors and seek medical care. but results are further damaging. May allah forgive me sinner and increase us all with ilm of deen and imaan and grant us all aafiyah.

Wa salaam

Potassium is widely distributed in the body fluid. An average amount of 4 gm of Potassium is present in the diet. Potassium is easily absorbed. Daily Recommended Potassium 3,500 mg.
It helps in contraction of muscle, maintain in acidity & alkalinity, help in heart function, energy production & sensation in nerve muscles. One of the main functions of potassium is to help your body maintain the proper level of calcium by binding it to your bones, decreasing the risk of osteoporosis. It also helps remove any surplus potassium through your urine. People with low potassium levels are more prone to develop kidney stones.
In addition to helping manage your nervous and circulatory system, people with a normal potassium level usually have lower blood pressure and less likely to have a stroke or heart attack.
Nearly all foods have some potassium, so if you eat awell balanced diet your daily potassium levelshould be just fine. However if your blood potassium levels are low then there are many foods, fruits and vegetables, which will help you raise your potassium.
Bananas: Bananas are everyone’s first choice when they need a potassium rich food. The yellow South American fruit has approximately 550mgs of potassium per medium sized fruit. Although bananas can be eaten baked in bread or mixed into a pudding, you will get the maximum amount of potassium just by eating the banana raw or cut into pieces and mixed in your cereal.
Papaya: Another fruit that is an excellent source of potassium is the papaya. Just one eighth ounce papaya has 936 mg of potassium. In addition to being a food that is potassium rich food, the papaya also helps prevent cancer and easing ulcer pain. The papin in papayas helps cure all sorts of digestive problems.
Cabbage: One cup of cooked cabbage will provide your body with 277mg of potassium. Eating cabbage is also an excellent way to maintain your ocular health. Cabbage has also been useful in the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.
Additional potassium rich foods include; skim milk, apples, low-fat yogurt, peanuts, peanut butter, mushrooms, strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, onions, ice cream, pumpkin, and raisins.
Importance of Potassium Rich Foods: If you follow a healthy, well-balanced, and plentiful diet of foods high in potassium, it is not likely that you will need to worry about suffering from mineral imbalance. Potassium is naturally found in fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and dairy products, meat, poultry & fish foods. A number of potassium supplements are available in the market, and quite a few people include these in their daily regimen.
Some people, of course, don’t have much choice. Various ailments deem it necessary for them to monitor their potassium intake, and so it is necessary for them to take supplements which inform them about the exact amount of potassium that is daily ingested.
Athletes and other sports people also require potassium supplements. If you exercise vigorously, keep in mind that sweating brings mineral imbalance and you should take frequent breaks to refuel depleting potassium levels with electrolyte drinks and energy bars.
What foods are high in potassium? Aside from the aforementioned cantaloupe, potassium rich foods include: Bananas, Oranges, Apricots, Avocado, Strawberries, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Cucumber, Cabbage, Cauliflower, mushrooms, Brussels, Turmeric, Parsley, Spinach, Broccoli, Halibut.
Potassium is a mineral salt (electrolyte) that is essential for maintaining the balance of pH levels in our body fluids. It plays an important role in regulating our blood pressure; bone mass, nervous system, muscle function, heart, kidney and adrenal functions. Low levels of potassium can cause potassium deficiency and bring on a whole host of health problems. People with a potassium deficiency are said to be suffering from Hypokalemia. There are number of causes that can bring on potassium deficiency. The usual suspects are a poor or inadequate diet that required potassium rich food. People with diabetes and kidney problems are also likely to suffer from mineral imbalance.
You will know that you are deficient in potassium if you find yourself experiencing an overall weakness and seem to be constantly fatigued. You are also likely to have trouble concentrating on your daily tasks, and may have difficulty with muscular coordination. Potassium deficiency can lead to high blood pressure problems, hypertension, strokes, and heart irregularities.

Harmful food .. Avoid these to get and stay healthy

Harmful Foods

Value your health, know WHAT foods to avoid,
and understand WHY.

Just think, each time you consume any of these
harmful foods, you slash a few hours off your life.

What Are We Eating?

Today’s modern diet is so desperately lacking in nutrient compared to those of our ancestors’ days. How so? With the advancement of technology, most of our foods are manufactured, genetically re-engineered, and processed. Being busy people, we start to rely heavily on instant meals. We spend lesser time preparing fresh foods.

Even the foods that we do prepare in our kitchen with all the sophisticated equipments, kill and destroy the nutrients and enzymes that our bodies so crave. Just what are we doing to our bodies?

As I did my own research, I was shocked with the findings about the foods that I have been consuming in my first thirty years of life. By knowing the damages these foods are doing to my body, I started making conscious efforts to gradually change my eating habits. It doesn’t happen overnight but it can be done.

Reduce on Eating Acid-Forming Foods

When we eat foods that are “acid-forming”, they cause our blood to become acidic. Acidic blood means “thick blood”, means “slow-moving” blood that reduces the effective function of carrying nutrients to every part of our body. Thick blood “hosts” a myriad of harmful organisms (bacteria, virus, parasites, yeast, etc.). Over time, it begins to clog up the detox organs and cause other health issues. See this page for illustration on what happens when your liver gets clogged up.

What Are The Acid-Forming Foods?

So what are acid-forming foods? Some examples: Animal protein, dairy products, deep-fried foods, cooked foods, junk/processed foods, oily foods, medication, flour and sugar products (e.g. pastries, cakes, biscuits, doughnuts, etc.), artificial food additives(e.g. emulsifiers, coloring, flavoring, preservatives, stabilizers), soft drinks and alcohol. Plant proteins are also acid-forming but are more easily assimilated when compared to animal proteins.

I’m not saying don’t eat these foods, I say eat them if you must, but in smaller amounts, and eat the alkaline-forming foods more (fruits, vegetables, plant based foods). If you know that you have thick blood, you’ll do well to reduce your intake of acid-forming foods and increase on alkaline-forming foods to begin to reverse your health problems.

I may not be able to cover everything here but I want to share with you, some of the basic common foods we all eat without thinking of the damaging impact they have on our health. Some of which we have even regarded as “healthy”. Read the truth:

Pasteurized Milk and Dairy Products

Pasteurized milk (UHT – ultra-heat temperature) is the heating of milk to temperatures of 160 degrees or higher. This changes the milk protein (casein) content to an inorganic form, which cannot be assimilated by the body.

When this protein cannot be broken down, it weakens the immune system, causing allergies and many other problems, like asthma, nasal congestion, skin rash, chest infections, higher blood cholesterol, increased risk of heart disease and stroke.

Crib deaths have even been attributed to cow’s milk allergy. You are better off pouring the milk down the drain than feed it to your baby.

Do you realize that when you consume cow’s milk, it causes excessive mucus to be formed in your lungs, sinuses and intestines. The mucus also hardens to form a coating on the inner wall of the intestines that leads to poor absorption of nutrients. It causes constipation and can lead to many ill problems.

Imagine then, what havoc cow’s milk does to an infant. No wonder asthma and bronchitis are so rampant in our young children! Oh, the mucus that form in the little lungs!

Sally Fallon of the Weston Price Foundation in the States said it like this:

“Pasteurization destroys enzymes, diminishes vitamin content, denatures fragile milk proteins, destroys vitamin B12 and vitamin B6, kills beneficial bacteria, promotes pathogens and is associated with allergies, increased tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease and cancer.”

God has designed mothers to feed babies with breast milk. But in these modern days, mothers are too busy that we have resorted to cow’s milk, bringing up a generation of sickly children who have weak immune systems.

If we are going to cow’s milk for calcium, we are mistaken. Cow’s milk is not a good source of this mineral. Milk (and dairy products) are acid-forming in our body. When it gets acidic, our bodies try to balance the pH by drawing more calcium (alkaline) from our bones. Over time, more and more calcium are actually drawn out from your bones and eventually lead to osteoporosis.

For alternative sources of calcium, choose seeds, nuts, and crunchy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, carrots and cauliflower.

For infants, if breast milk is not available, substitute with goat’s milk instead, or rice milk, or almond milk.

Soda/Carbonated Drinks

If you drink soda/carbonated drinks regularly, you would do yourself a great favor to gradually eliminate them from your diet—the sooner the better.

A can of soda/carbonated drink contains up to 15 teaspoons of sugar, 150 empty calories, 30 to 55 mg of caffeine and is loaded with harmful artificial food colors, flavorings and preservatives. All these but with zero nutritional value.

Some soda drinks are “disguised” as “diet soda” where dangerous sweeteners like aspartame are added. Numerous health side effects are associated with aspartame ingestion, including brain damage, diabetes, emotional disorders, decreased vision, ringing in the ears, memory loss, heart palpitations, shortness of breath and many more. This short list should be enough to show you the danger of this ingredient in diet sodas.

Another way soda drinks are “disguised”, is in so-called “energy drinks”. Energy drinks may give you a boost of energy upon consumption, but it does not last. In fact, when the effect wears off you will feel your energy dwindle and you will start to crave another can. It becomes a vicious cycle and eventually gets you hooked.

The sugar content level in sodas are way too high and will lead to many health problems. Moreover, when you consume too much sugar, your appetite will be suppressed for the nutritious foods. This results in nutritional deficiency.

Prescription Drugs

Yes, unfortunately, if you are on any medication, it is acid-forming and causes your blood to thicken. Then you will be prescribed another medication to “thin” your blood but would cause you to have stomach ulcer. Then, you will be prescribed yet another medication to “counter” your ulcer but may cause you constipation.

And when you have constipation, it will cause you a host of many other health problems as it indirectly also weaken your liver functions. Your immunity system is compromised.

Other diseases that may surface: diabetes, high blood pressure, poor blood circulation, high cholesterol, yeast infection, etc. Then you keep getting prescribed more and more medication for each of this problem. Do you see the vicious cycle?

Talk to your physician to reduce your medication intake, although some physicians may not, as they don’t understand natural healing. Take control of your own body and your own health! Begin by eating morealkaline-forming foods.

Human bodies are designed to fuel on carbohydrates, which is the source of our energy. We fulfill this need by consuming complex carbohydrates from whole foods like whole grains, vegetables, beans or lentils, or from fruits.

However, with technology, man has extracted sweetness but leaving behind the nutrients. Refined sugar is lethal for human consumption because it has been depleted of its life forces, vitamins and minerals, rendering it “empty”.

Concentrated sugar—in the forms of white sugar, brown sugar, glucose, honey and syrup—releases sugar fast, causing a rapid increase in our blood sugar levels when consumed.

If this sugar is not required by the body, it is deposited in “storage” as fats. These concentrated sugars are almost totally devoid of useful nutrients.

When the blood sugar level rises, the pancreas releases insulin into the blood stream. Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate the level of blood sugar.

When we consume food that releases sugar fast (high glycemic index), our body over-reacts to the increase in blood glucose by producing more insulin than necessary.

As a result, blood glucose falls too much within a short time, causing you to feel hungry again. When you respond to that hunger by eating another high glycemic meal, it sets off another cycle of swing in the insulin level.

Over time, these exaggerated increases and falls in the insulin level will lead to a reduction in the body’s ability to respond to insulin, the development of a condition called insulin resistance.

When this happens, the glucose level in the blood system remains constantly high. The pancreas respond by producing more and more insulin to try to maintain the sugar blood level, until it can no longer keep up anymore.

This condition is directly damaging to the cells and can cause very severe long-term damage to the body.

Some of the common health problems known that are related to this condition are insomnia, obesity, type-II diabetes, polycystic ovary disease, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and hormone related cancers.

Do not be deceived and use artificial sweetener. They mostly contain aspartame that are even deadlier than your table sugar. A plant-based sugar called stevia is a much healthier alternative.

The salt I’m referring to here is table salt (sodium chloride).  It creates untold physical problems and suffering. Yes, the body needs salt (sodium), but it must be in an organic form in order to be useful to the body. Table salt, sodium chloride, is an inorganic sodium compound that combines with chloride..

It is extremely toxic to the body and causes the body to retain fluid. High intake of this substance thickens and stiffens arteries and increases the risks of strokes, and cardiac failure.

It accelerates the rate of renal functional deterioration. Sodium chloride draws calcium from your bones, which is excreted in your urine. This leads to early and painful osteoporosis, or the thinning and fracturing of your bones.

White Flour Products

All the good substances (bran and germ) is removed from flour during processing. Then it is bleached with a deadly chemical called “alloxan“, a bleaching agent similar to Clorox. This compound destroys the beta-cells of the pancreas, leading to type 2 diabetes.

Finally, some coal-tar-derived (carcinogenic – cancer causing) vitamins are added and sold to the unsuspecting public as “enriched”. White flour makes your blood sugar rise more than refined sugar.

Intestinal infections are a direct outcome of white flour consumption. It is hard to chew, puts pressure on the digestive system and is extremely low on fiber. Mixed with low-quality rice flour, it has no nutrient a growing child requires.

Be wary of things made from flour, e.g. bread, cakes, pancakes, pasta, etc. If you must eat them, eat them sparingly. “Foods” made of flour has no nutritional value at all, and cause more harm to your body than good. Combine this with sugar and high heat baking, you have the perfect combination to all kinds of degenerative diseases.

Wheat bread has recently been introduced as the “healthier option”. Do not be deceived. Studies have shown that wheat is contaminated with a germ called mycotoxin.

When consumed in high amount, this germ can be lethal and has been reported to cause rheumatoid arthritis, miscarriages, headaches, infertility, slow growth development in children and irritable bowel.

Moreover, wheat converts to sugar rapidly and accelerates aging in people with low metabolic rate.

Meat Products

We are taught that meat is high in protein and iron, and is good for us.

However, most commercially produced meat today, whether chicken, beef, pork or lamb, have received hormone treatments of one kind of another. Besides making the meat tender, these hormones are used to escalate the animals’ growth and increase their milk or production yields.

These hormones which are estrogen-dominant, have been found to be linked to breast cancer, fibroids, ovarian and cervical cancer, and endometriosis in women.

In men, the common symptoms are prostate and testicular cancer, loss of libido, impotence and breast enlargement, just to name a few.

Antibiotics are also used widely on these animals to prevent infection and to enhance growth—all in the name of higher profits in shorter time.

Diseases of the digestive system have directly been linked to meat consumption. And more critically, the risk of heart disease and cancer of the stomach and colon.

If you must eat meat, try to avoid beef and pork, or consume no more than three portions a week. A better choice for protein in substituting meat would be small or fresh water fishes, beans, lentils, bean curd or whole grains. Try to eat organic whenever possible.

But remember, most of us are in more danger of too much protein intake than too little. Excess protein is a contributor to osteoporosis, overadicity and many other common health problems.

Studies on low-carb/high protein diet have shown a marked increase in acidity overload to the kidney, increases the risk for stone formation, and decreases calcium, increasing risk for bone loss.

Another reason why we should avoid meat is the stress that it puts upon our digestive system.  Read about it here.

Vegetable Oils

Polyunsaturated oils, which include vegetable oils like corn, soy, linola and canola are beneficial on their own. However, by making them into cooking oils, they are heavily refined and processed, rendering them toxic. For a long time now, these cooking oils have been mistakenly regarded as the “healthier” choice, but experts have now pointed out that this is a fatal mistake.

After refining and processing, these beneficial oils become oxidized as they get exposed to heat from the processing, resulting in the formation of transfats and damaging free radicals (this is a process called hydrogenation).

The truth is, coconut oil which have been regarded as unhealthy is the better choice for cooking. Unlike most unsaturated oils, coconut oil does not turn toxic when cooked.

Other alternatives are virgin (or extra virgin) olive oil for light cooking or sauteing, or grapeseed oil for high heat cooking.

Important read: Types of fats to avoid, and the Essential fats our body needs.

Fast (Fried) Foods

While many of us know that fast foods are bad, we don’t know just “how bad” they are, to stop eating them. We spend our hard-earned money on the very things that are killing us, then our lifetime savings on medical bills.

We think that the main danger of frying was that fats cooked at high temperatures produce oxidants that cause cancer. But I have news for you.

Scientific research has found another cancer-causing substance calledacrylamide, in foods cooked at high temperatures, whether with or without fats.

While the safe limit set for acrylamide in food is ten parts per billion (ppb), French fries and potato chips are found to contain more than a hundred times this amount!

Acrylamide is produced when foods are browned or burnt, or cooked or processed using high heat. These methods include frying, barbecuing, baking, and even by microwaving.

If you must cook your foods, choose to steam, quick stir-fry or blanch instead. This way, the foods will not contain oxidants as you do not burn your food.

The Truth about natural cough/cold and flu remedies

Most people know there is no real cure for the common cold. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over 200 different viruses can cause the characteristic runny nose, cough, sore throat, and sneezing most people experience at least once per year (CDC, 2009). Most people with cold symptoms have strains of the rhinovirus, but different viruses are more prevalent during certain seasons. Because colds are caused by viruses, antibiotics are ineffective treatments. Furthermore, antiviral medications are not yet sophisticated enough to effectively cure the wide variety of cold viruses. Most people heal without medication in 10 days or less.

Symptoms of the common cold include:

  • runny or stuffy nose
  • coughing, sneezing, or sniffling
  • mild body aches
  • mild headaches
  • general feeling of illness (malaise)

If you have any of the following symptoms, promptly consult a physician:

  • fever higher than 100.4 F
  • symptoms for more than 10 days
  • severe symptoms that do not respond to over-the-counter treatments

Instead of curing the condition, most cold remedies just treat the symptoms. People have turned to natural remedies for centuries, trying to prevent, soothe, or shorten the duration of the common cold. Although certain natural cold treatments have considerable scientific support, many have not been well studied or supported by research. Before you try any—or all—of the major natural cold remedies, read up on the pros and cons, risks and benefits, and evidence behind each of the most popular options.

Chicken Noodle Soup

Chicken soup has long been a comfort food for individuals with cold symptoms. Whether the remedy comes from the warmth and comfort of the soup or from actual cold-fighting ingredients in the meal, is still up for debate..

Chicken Soup: Just the Evidence

Science has begun to support what mothers have understood for centuries. The heat, salt, and hydration provided by chicken soup may actually fight the cold virus (NIH, 2012). Laboratory studies have shown that ingredients of a chicken soup with vegetables could kill viral cells and prevent the growth of new ones (Rennard, et al., 2000). The soup may also provide an anti-inflammatory effect in the upper respiratory tract that helps soothe symptoms (Rennard, et al., 2000). Unfortunately, the benefits of chicken soup appear to be limited by how quickly the soup leaves the body (Babizhayev, et al., 2012). There is no indication that chicken soup would help in the prevention of colds, but its use as a remedy for symptoms is common. It is largely a safe remedy with no ill side effects, and scientific evidence points more in favor of its cold-fighting properties than against it.

The Downside of Chicken Soup

Evidence in support of chicken soup’s antiviral properties is not yet solid enough to demonstrate true, reliable medicinal effects. Although the anecdotal evidence and existing research seem to support a therapeutic effect of chicken soup, a clinical trial would be very difficult to perform (Ohry, et al., 1999). In addition, some people with food allergies or sensitivities to salt may experience negative side effects from chicken soup. Unstrained bones may also pose a choking risk, particularly for children. Otherwise, the potential benefits of chicken soup seem to far outweigh the possible risks.

Zinc Supplements, Lozenges, and Sprays

Zinc has been used for decades to calm symptoms, reduce the duration of, and prevent the common cold. The human body uses zinc to support the health of the immune system and the eyes. It is also important for cell health, wound healing, and protein synthesis (ODS, 2011). Zinc can be found naturally in foods such as oysters, beef, beans, and oatmeal. It is also added to enriched grain products like bread and cereal. Only very small amounts of zinc are needed by the body to function properly. Severalmanufacturers sell zinc lozenges, oral sprays, and capsule supplements. Most zinc lozenges provide up to twice the recommended daily allowance of zinc for children and adults. Consuming a zinc lozenge every two hours when cold symptoms are present is unlikely to cause zinc overdose, however (NIH, 2011).

Zinc: Just the Evidence

The evidence for zinc as a cold remedy is mixed. Decades of research have been inconclusive about the ability of zinc lozenges and supplements to prevent or treat the common cold. Some trials showed a significant decrease in the number and duration of colds per year in individuals taking zinc lozenges and supplements, but others show no difference between zinc and control or placebo groups (Roxas, et al., 2007). According to the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) evidence rankings, zinc lozenges are considered “possibly effective” for reducing the length of the common cold (NIH, 2011). The NIH also reports that zinc pill supplements and nasal sprays are probably not useful for preventing colds.

Evidence in favor of zinc lozenges has shown preventive power and a great reduction in the duration of symptoms and absenteeism (Mossad, et al., 2006; Prasad, et al., 2000; Singh, et al., 2011). However, many studies have also shown no real effect of zinc on cold prevention, symptoms, or duration (Macknin, et al., 1998; Marshall, 2000). Zinc nasal sprays and gels have research supporting their effectiveness (Gorman, 1999; Hirt, 2000; Mossad, 2003). Despite their promise, nasal sprays have been criticized for ineffectiveness and occasional permanent or significant negative side effects (Belongia, et al., 2001; Eby, et al., 2006). Overall, zinc lozenges appear to be effective at treating symptoms, but are unproven for preventing colds; zinc nasal sprays have been shown to effectively treat symptoms but have not been thoroughly studied regarding prevention (due to potentially extreme side effects).

The Downside of Zinc

Although studies have shown mixed results on the effectiveness of zinc, there is little controversy over its side effects. Zinc can cause metallic taste, local irritation, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and other problems. These side effects are more likely to occur with heavy or frequent zinc supplementation than from single lozenges. Overuse can cause coughing, fever, stomach pains, fatigue, and problems with blood iron levels. In large doses (10–30 gm.), zinc can be fatal (NIH, 2011).

Zinc also interacts with many medications and natural supplements. Penicillamine, which is commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, can be rendered much less effective when combined with zinc. Zinc can also decrease the body’s ability to use antibiotics, such as quinolone or tetracycline medications. It may also interfere with the cancer drug cisplatin (Platinol-AQ) and cause a zinc overdose when used with the “water pill” amiloride (Midamor). Zinc may interact with supplements of calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, and manganese.

Warning: Zicam Zinc Nasal Sprays and Loss of Smell

After more than 130 reports of permanent or long-lasting loss of the ability to smell caused by zinc nasal sprays, the FDA issued a recall of Zicam intranasal products (FDA, 2009). These zinc-based nasal spray products were available without a prescription and were used to relieve cold symptoms and the duration of colds. Further research into this serious side effect has confirmed the ability of zinc nasal sprays to cause loss of smell (Duncan-Lewis, et al., 2011; Jafek, et al., 2004).

Echinacea Tea, Juice, Root, and Supplements

Echinacea has long been used in a variety of forms to prevent colds and fight respiratory infections. There are nine species of Echinacea, but the most common variety used for health purposes is Echinacea purpurea (NCCAM, 2010). This herbal remedy has been used for centuries. It was a traditional medicinal plant used by Native Americans and quickly adopted by North American settlers. Proponents believe it helps support the immune system. It is also used to treat skin problems, urinary tract infections, yeast infections, migraines, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), ADHD, and other conditions.

Echinacea: Just the Evidence

Despite its frequent use as a herbal remedy for colds, scientific study on Echinacea has been lacking and contradictory. The National Institutes of Health reports that current evidence suggests Echinacea is “possibly effective” for modestly reducing cold symptoms, but not for preventing colds (NIH, 2011). It is believed that Echinacea has anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties, and stimulates the immune system in animal models (NIH, 2011).

Some research studies do report a positive effect of Echinacea on minimizing the occurrence and severity of colds (Shah, et al., 2007; Schoop, et al., 2006). Others show a total lack of impact of Echinacea on the occurrence or severity of colds (Barrett, et al., 2002; O’Neil, et al., 2008). Because of these conflicting studies, it is hard to claim Echinacea has consistent, beneficial effects on the occurrence, duration, or severity of cold symptoms. In addition, the great variation in Echinacea preparation methods, dosages, and purity makes it difficult to identify the most promising Echinacea supplements for the common cold (Linde, et al., 2006). All in all, Echinacea is a promising candidate for cold prevention through immune system support, and it is believed to reliably relieve cold symptoms.

The Downside of Echinacea

According to the Mayo Clinic, Echinacea can cause allergic reactions in some individuals that can be life-threatening (Mayo Clinic, 2011). People with allergies to the ragweed family (Asteraceae) should avoid Echinacea because of its similar natural properties. Echinacea can also cause stomach discomfort, nausea, muscle aches, dizziness or headaches, sore throat, and rashes. It is not recommended for regular use (no longer than 10 days), and may cause more problems in children than in adults (NIH, 2011).

Echinacea may cause complications in people with autoimmune disorders and is also not recommended for use by pregnant women. Echinacea may also affect how the body breaks down certain chemicals and medicines—individuals on liver medications or immunosuppressants should avoid Echinacea until they can consult a medical professional about potential interaction effects (NIH, 2011).

Vitamin C Supplements and Foods

Famous for its historic use to cure scurvy, vitamin C also has a long past in the prevention and treatment of the common cold. Vitamin C works as an antioxidant that helps body tissue grow and heal itself. It is a water-soluble vitamin that humans must get through food or supplements. Common foods that contain high amounts of vitamin C include bell peppers, citrus fruits, kiwifruit, broccoli, strawberries, and tomato juice (ODS, 2011). Vitamin C is also a common component of multivitamins and over-the-counter cold remedies. It is widely believed to improve general health, speed healing, and fight infection.

Vitamin C: Just the Evidence

According to the National Institutes of Health, vitamin C is considered “possibly effective” for treating the common cold, but is ineffective for preventing it (NIH, 2011). Despite this ranking, reviews of large numbers of studies show mixed results about prevention and treatment (Douglas, et al., 2004; Roxas, et al., 2007). Some demonstrate a positive effect on cold symptoms or frequency (Gorton, et al., 1999;Hemila, 1996; Sasazuki, et al., 2006) and a decreased number of colds in people exposed to extreme temperatures or physical stressors (Douglas, et al., 2007). Others showed no difference in frequency, severity, or duration—even with a mega-dose (Audera, et al., 2001). Because it is nearly impossible to overdose on vitamin C, large doses are often present in over-the-counter cold medicines. Current conflicts in evidence for vitamin C’s effectiveness for cold prevention and treatment make it difficult to endorse as a true remedy to colds. However, vitamin C is considered very safe for most people and is unlikely to cause any harm when used for colds. Overall, many users swear by vitamin C supplements for cold prevention, and evidence suggests it shows some effectiveness as a treatment.

The Downside of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is typically considered safe, even in sizeable doses. Side effects of vitamin C use by mouth are rare. They include nausea, vomiting, headache, cramps, and heartburn. Doses over 2000mg per day can cause kidney stones and diarrhea (NIH, 2011). In addition, people with heart conditions, cancer, diabetes, blood disorders, and kidney stones should always consult a physician before taking vitamin C supplements.

Vitamin C can also interact with certain medications and natural supplements. Vitamin C may interfere with drugs for heart conditions, cancer, HIV/AIDS, blood clotting, and pain. It may also interact with drugs with estrogens and aluminum. High doses of vitamin C can cause problems for some people when taken with acerola, chromium, copper, grape seed, or rosehip (NIH, 2011). Most people can take vitamin C through food or dietary supplements without any side effects.

Goldenseal Root

Goldenseal is a root used for its purported medicinal properties. The dried root is most famous for its supposed ability to mask illegal drugs in urine (for which it is not actually effective). It is also used to battle STIs, urinary tract infections, bleeding problems, jaundice, upper respiratory infections, hearing problems, and skin problems (NIH, 2011). It is often found in the form of tea, supplements, and over-the-counter remedies.

Goldenseal Root: Just the Evidence

Despite its many uses, there is not enough reliable evidence to suggest goldenseal is effective for any of its common medical uses. Limited research supports the medical effect of berberine, a compound in goldenseal. Berberine may possess significant antibiotic properties (Kong, et al., 2012) and antiviral abilities (Wu, et al., 2011). Unfortunately, virtually no research has been performed on goldenseal use for the common cold. A lack of research does not mean that goldenseal does not improve symptoms of respiratory infections. Instead, it just means that not enough is known about goldenseal’s ability to fight or prevent the common cold to recommend its use.

The Downside of Goldenseal Root

Although not much evidence supports the use of goldenseal for fighting colds, there is plenty of information known about its downsides. Although it is considered safe for most adults in a single dose, pregnant or breastfeeding women and infants should not take goldenseal in any form. Goldenseal can negatively impact the effects of a large variety of medications. Known interactions exist with medications for organ transplants, mental health conditions, heart problems, infections, cancer, and many other illnesses. Goldenseal has not been studied enough to know whether it may interact with other herbal supplements or foods. Always ask a physician or pharmacist about goldenseal before taking it in any form.

Garlic is an edible herb that has long been used to flavor food and treat a variety of common health conditions. Eating garlic and taking supplements has been shown to be effective for high blood pressure, fungal skin infections, tick bite treatment, and prevention of certain cancers (NIH, 2011). It is also used for many other health conditions, such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and the common cold. It is available as a potent food flavor in fresh, dried, jarred, oil, paste, and powdered forms. It is also sold in supplements. The odor of garlic is caused by its active compound, allicin; odorless supplements often remove this active compound and may be less effective (NIH, 2011).

Garlic: Just the Evidence

Although some research suggests that garlic is effective in reducing blood pressure and healing fungal skin conditions, the National Institutes of Health report that there is “insufficient evidence” to tell whether garlic effectively treats or prevents the common cold (NIH, 2011). Despite this rating, a few studies have found that garlic supplements may prevent colds and reduce their severity when they occur (Josling, 2001; Nantz, et al., 2012). Other reviews argue that existing research is not solid enough to support any positive effect of garlic on colds (Lissiman, et al., 2012; Nahas, et al., 2011;Pittler, et al., 2007). Although there is no solid reason to believe that garlic does not work, the evidence is either too weak or mixed to conclude that it is helpful in preventing or treating the common cold.

The Downside of Garlic

Although garlic is generally considered safe for regular use in your diet or as a supplement, there are some possible side effects. Many people may get bad breath from oral garlic use. In addition, some people may get heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gas, or body odor. People who are undergoing surgery should stop taking garlic two weeks prior to the surgery, as garlic may prolong bleeding. You should also avoid if you suffer from a bleeding disorder, or gastrointestinal problems (NIH, 2011). Children and pregnant women should not consume garlic in large amounts due to possible complications.

Raw garlic is more likely to cause side effects than other forms. In addition, garlic may interact with many medications. It may decrease the effectiveness of drugs for bleeding disorders, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and a number of other conditions. Garlic may even reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills that contain estrogen (NIH, 2011). Because garlic may slow blood clotting, it may increase the risk of bleeding when taken with other supplements that have similar properties. These include fish oil, ginger, ginkgo, turmeric, vitamin E, and willow (NIH, 2011). Always consult a health professional before taking garlic supplements or significantly increasing the amount of garlic you eat.

American Ginseng Root

North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) has long been used for its medicinal properties. This herb has different effects from its Siberian and Asian cousins. American ginseng has been traditionally used for a wide variety of ailments. In addition to treating cold and flu, this form of ginseng is used in an effort to relieve stress, improve digestion, boost the immune system, enhance memory, battle HIV/AIDS and cancer, manage diabetes, and even prevent signs of aging. The root can be used to make powdered supplements or oils and extracts (which can be added to food or drinks).

Ginseng: Just the Evidence

Ginseng has been studied more than many other natural cold remedies. According to the National Institutes of Health, American ginseng is “possibly effective” for preventing colds and flu viruses (NIH, 2011). Research does indicate that ginseng supplements may reduce the frequency, severity, and duration of the common cold (McElhaney, et al., 2006; Predy, et al., 2005; Seida, et al., 2011). It is unclear whether it is equally effective in children (Vohra, et al., 2008). The ability of American ginseng treatments to fight the common cold is likely due to polysaccharides, ginsenosides, and an active compound named CVT-E002 (NIH, 2011). This extract has already been added to over-the-counter cold remedies, such as Cold-fX, which have been met with much commercial success. According to the National Institutes of health, Siberian ginseng is “possibly effective” for relieving cold symptoms, but it must be taken with the herb andrographis (NIH, 2011). Overall, American and Siberian ginseng collectively appear to be a reasonable remedy for cold prevention and treatment.

The Downside of Ginseng

Unfortunately, ginseng can cause serious side effects and drug interactions in some people. Even with short-term use, ginseng may cause blood pressure changes, low blood sugar, diarrhea, itching, sleep problems, headaches, and nervousness. It can also cause vaginal bleeding, rashes, and allergic reactions (NIH, 2005).Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take ginseng.

Schizophrenics, people about to have surgery, patients with gynecological cancers, people on the blood-thinning drug warfarin (Coumadin), and insomniacs may be at risk of harm from ginseng use. Diabetics and people using anti-depressants should also carefully discuss ginseng use with a physician before taking supplements.

Nasal Irrigation

Nasal irrigation finds its origins in Ayurvedic medicine. Typically, a saline (saltwater) solution is used to rinse the sinuses. Saline nasal irrigation is commonly used to alleviate or prevent symptoms of congestion and inflammation in people with allergies or frequent sinus infections. Because this process can reduce swelling of mucus membranes and clear the sinuses of build-up, many people also believe it helps prevent colds and treat their symptoms. Saline nasal irrigation kits are sold without a prescription at most drug stores. A warm saline solution is poured from a syringe or a teapot-like container through each side of the nose, draining out the other nostril (Blum, 2009).

Saline Nasal Irrigation: Just the Evidence

Major reviews of existing research have shown that nasal irrigation can be effective at relieving symptoms of sinusitis or rhinitis in patients with persistent problems (Harvey, Hannan, Badia, & Scadding, 2009). It was found to be even more useful when paired with other treatments, like decongestant medication or antibiotics. Although people with colds may have many symptoms in common with those experiencing rhinitis (stuffy or runny nose, sinus swelling, etc.), a similar review did not find enough evidence suggesting nasal irrigation effectively treats colds or other upper respiratory infections (Kassel, King, & Spurling, 2010). Despite few studies on the topic, this review did cite studies that found nasal irrigation relieved symptoms, helped get people back to work sooner, and reduced the use of antibiotics. A more recent review of nasal irrigation studies did find that people experienced symptom relief, even with a variety of saline concentrations and techniques (Khianey & Oppenheimer, 2012). Unlike some other natural cold remedies, nasal irrigation is considered mild and safe for use in pregnant women and children. A recent study even found a significant reduction in respiratory infections among children using nasal irrigation as a preventive measure (No authors listed, 2012). Overall, nasal irrigation looks like a promising natural cold remedy, but current evidence is a bit too weak to say the same for its ability to prevent colds. With proper education on use of the irrigation kit, most people experience no side effects.

The Downside of Nasal Irrigation

Side effects of saline nasal rinses include mild discomfort, anxiety about the process, and occasionally dry nasal membranes. When the irrigation process is performed incorrectly, patients may feel as if they got water up the nose (as if from swimming). If the saline packet is not correctly mixed with enough water, a high salt concentration can cause nasal discomfort. Most side effects are associated with the first few uses, when the patient is learning the process. Most people do not experience any negative side effects (Rabago, et al., 2002). Those that do have an unpleasant experience can usually fix the problem by getting help from a health worker to improve their technique (Rabago & Zgierska, 2009). Fortunately, saline irrigation can often be paired with other remedies without side effects.

Meditation and Mindfulness

Meditation is an ancient method of restoring spiritual balance and emotional perspective to life. It is now often used to encourage physical health and to promote relaxation and stress reduction. In recent years, research has discovered the power of meditation and mindfulness strategies to promote mental health and even aid in healing. Meditation and mindfulness sessions may have a wide variety of health and personal benefits. The techniques are free, natural, and do not require any special equipment. These factors make meditation and mindfulness strategies a simple and appealing option for a cold remedy. Yoga is a common way to use physical motions and focus on the breath to achieve a state of meditation.

Meditation and Mindfulness: Just the Evidence

Unfortunately, very little research has examined the link between meditation and the common cold. Some evidence suggests meditation and mindfulness exercises may improve immune function (Davidson, et al., 2003). Another study found that meditation did reduce the severity and duration of respiratory infections as well as the number of days off work compared to individuals who did not exercise or meditate (Barrett, et al., 2012). A similar study found that greater effectiveness at mindfulness meditation was associated with a shorter duration of acute respiratory infections (Zgierska, et al., 2012).

Yoga has been shown to provide health benefits and some improvement in immune function, but no research has explicitly linked yoga to the prevention or treatment of colds. Certain yoga poses are recommended for their potential benefit to individuals with colds, however (Pirisi, n.d.). Although there is little research to support a clear benefit of meditation for preventing or treating colds, the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine reports that meditation can be helpful in fighting chronic illness, reducing anxiety or depression, relieving pain and fatigue, and improving sleep (NCCAM, 2010). Little direct research supports a connection to cold treatment, but indirect evidence of their effects on fatigue, pain, and immune function make meditation and mindfulness promising habits for cold prevention.

The Downside of Meditation and Mindfulness

As benign as a period of relaxation and disconnection may sound, long-term meditation is not without potential negative side effects (Shapiro, 1992, Mayo Clinic, 2011). In general, side effects such as loss of ability to concentrate or a worsening of psychiatric illness are believed to be rare. Some individuals may also find meditation and mindfulness exercises frustrating if they are unfamiliar with proper techniques or do not believe the therapy will work (Jain & Astin, 2001). Meditation proponents often cite zero negative side effects of meditation and mindfulness (Edy, n.d.). Yoga may carry physical side effects, muscle strain, or physical discomfort in certain poses or when proper physical form is not used. Yoga may also pose risks for pregnant women and people with uncontrolled high blood pressure, balance problems or severe osteoporosis, artificial joints, or certain eye problems (Mayo Clinic, 2010). While meditation and mindfulness remain unverified methods of cold treatment and prevention, side effect prevalence will likely also go undocumented.

Exercise is widely considered an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Because of its benefits for the lungs, muscles, and circulation, regular exercise promotes healthy body systems. Exercise is believed to help individuals develop and maintain a strong immune system, which may help prevent colds. Exercise fans and athletes also may maintain their exercise routines when sick with the hopes that it will help them recover faster (or at least make no difference in the severity or duration of their illness).

Exercise for Colds: Just the Evidence

Although there is a large body of evidence behind the claim that exercise is beneficial for health, the research regarding exercise as a treatment or prevention method for colds is less well developed. Reviews of the evidence suggest a moderate level of exercise may help prevent upper respiratory infections (Martin, Pence, & Woods, 2010; Weidner & Sevier, 1996). On the other hand, intense levels of exercise may suppress the immune system and make individuals more prone to colds and other respiratory infections (Kippelen, et al., 2012; Nieman, 1995). Regular exercise has also been shown to reduce the number of missed workdays and illness from the common cold (Barrett, et al., 2012). Other studies indicate that exercise may not decrease the severity or duration of a cold but that exercise can be continued during cold symptoms without a negative impact (Weidner & Schurr, 2003). In general, moderate exercise during a cold is not likely to improve symptoms but is also unlikely to extend the illness (Laskowski, 2011), and it is a promising strategy for cold prevention.

The Downside of Exercise

Beyond the standard physical risks of exercise, exercising during an illness may cause some side effects. Moderate exercise is often well tolerated for individuals with a cold virus, but less strenuous workouts may be easier on the body. Because many cold viruses are not formally diagnosed, it is possible for people to misdiagnose themselves. Exercising with an infection more serious than the common cold can cause serious health problems. Always scale back or skip workouts if exercise makes you feel worse during an illness.

Do not exercise during a cold-like illness if you have any of the following symptoms (Laskowski, 2011):

  • fever
  • extreme fatigue
  • widespread muscle aches
  • chest congestion or a hacking cough
  • nausea

Green Tea Beverages and Supplements

Green tea has been heralded for its ability to enhance alertness, fight blood pressure problems, speed weight loss, and perform many other medical feats. Despite limited research behind many of its health-related claims, green tea has long been used as a beverage and extract. Green tea (Camellia sinensis) and green tea extracts have been shown to possess potent compounds that can impact human health, such as antioxidants, polyphenols, and caffeine. Green tea extract is used in an ointment for genital warts, and its other (non-medication) applications include the prevention and treatment of dental, heart and circulatory, cancer, skin, and digestive problems (NIH, 2011).

Green Tea: Just the Evidence

Green tea has not been widely studied with regards to its ability to prevent or treat respiratory infections. Some promising research indicates green tea supplements (in capsule form) may prevent some illness and cold and flu symptoms (Rowe, Nantz, Bukowski, & Percival 2007). The organic compounds in green tea may also have antiviral properties that can help fend off influenza strains (Friedman, 2007; Matsumoto, Yamada, Takuma, Niino, & Sagesaka, 2011; Song, Lee, & Seong, 2005). Drinking hot liquids in general during a cold may also temporarily relieve nasal congestion (Saketkhoo, Januszkiewicz, & Sackner, 1978). Overall, drinking green tea to prevent or treat the common cold appears to be a promising habit, but more research is needed.

The Downside of Green Tea

Temporary and long-term use of green tea as a beverage or supplement is likely safe for most adults. Some people may experience minor stomach upset or constipation from green tea use. Because of the caffeine and other active compounds in the tea, it may also cause more serious side effects in some people (NIH, 2011). Individuals who are pregnant, anemic, hypertensive, or diabetic should consult a health professional before using green tea as a beverage or supplement. In addition, those with blood disorders, liver conditions, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), or anxiety disorders should probably avoid green tea unless told otherwise by a health professional. Green tea may also interact negatively with common medications, such as birth control pills, antibiotics, and drugs for cancer, liver, and asthma problems(NIH, 2011). Always consult a physician before taking green tea if you use any other medications.

Warning: Green Tea and Stimulant Drugs

Green tea contains caffeine, which speeds up the nervous system. Drugs such as amphetamines, cocaine, and ephedrine also act as stimulants to the nervous system. Combining any stimulant drug with green tea or other caffeinated substances can cause too much stimulation and potential heart problems (NIH, 2011). Together, green tea and stimulant drugs can cause a dangerously fast heartbeat and high blood pressure.

Lemon and Honey

Lemon and honey have many natural properties that make them common sense cold fighters. Lemon is acclaimed for its vitamin C and antimicrobial properties (Dhanavade, Jalkute, Ghosh, & Sonawane, 2011; Efem & Iwara, 1992). Lemon may be used for its juice, peel, or extracted oil. Honey is treasured for its sweet taste, potential to fight seasonal allergies, and its broad range of antimicrobial properties. Together, they are often used in hot water or tea to aid cold symptoms. In addition, their flavors are a classic combination for throat lozenges.

Lemon and Honey: Just the Evidence

Both honey and lemon have significant ability to inhibit the growth of microbes that can cause infection (Dhanavade, Jalkute, Ghosh, & Sonawane, 2011; Efem & Iwara, 1992). The vitamin C in lemon may strengthen the immune system or help treat cold symptoms (NIH, 2011). Honey may also contain antiviral properties that could inhibit viral activity from colds (Zeina, Othman, & Al-Assad, 2007). In addition, a growing number of studies have found honey to be an effective cough suppressant and sleep aid during a cold, especially in children (Cohen, et al., 2012; Paul, et al., 2007). Some evidence does suggest that honey may not be better than over-the-counter dextromethorphan cough suppressants, although honey has no scientific evidence that argues against its use (Oduwole, Meremikwu, Oyo-Ita, & Udoh, 2012). Overall, there is insufficient evidence to believe lemon and honey can shorten the duration of a cold, but honey has promising evidence demonstrating its possible effectiveness in relieving certain symptoms. There is insufficient evidence to suggest lemon or honey can prevent the common cold.

The Downside of Lemon and Honey

Wild honey may contain spores of Clostridium botulinum. When ingested by infants, these spores and their toxins can cause serious health problems and—if left untreated—death (NIH, 2011; Tanzi & Gabay, 2002). For this reason, children under 12 months of age should not be given honey. Large doses and extended use of lemon juice provide large amounts of citric acid, which may cause the erosion of tooth enamel, nausea or vomiting, and eye or skin irritation upon contact (ISU, 2000). Otherwise, lemon and honey are both considered safe for regular consumption by children and adults.

In a way, probiotics have been used for health for many centuries. Historically, fermented milk products were associated with good health and long life (Fuller, n.d.). Although formal research did not explore the connection between fermented dairy products and gastrointestinal health until about 1900, they were deliberately used to promote good microbes in the gut by the 1930s (Azizpour, et al., 2009). Probiotics are currently used to prevent diarrheal illness and symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (Kligler & Cohrssen, 2008). They are also under investigation for their alleged ability to protect against cavities, treat skin problems, aid in the treatment of arthritis, and speed healing of gastrointestinal cancers (Goldin & Gorbach, 2008). Most probiotic supplements include lactobacillus and bifidobacteria in a dairy drink or yogurt.

Probiotics: Just the Evidence

Although there is limited research on the topic, probiotics may be helpful in preventing and treating respiratory infections (Leyer, Mubasher, Reifer, & Ouwehand, 2009). The evidence is mixed regarding its effectiveness in cold prevention, but probiotics have generally decreased the number of respiratory infections among regular users in studies (Hao, Lu, Dong, Huang, & Wu, 2011). The National Institutes of Health report there is “insufficient evidence” to determine whether probiotics are effective for preventing or treating the common cold; however, they are “possibly effective” for treating the symptoms of and preventing lung infections (NIH, 2011; NIH, 2011). Overall, there is only weak evidence suggesting that probiotics are useful in treating the common cold, though they may be a promising prevention technique because of a general boost to health.

The Downside of Probiotics

Although probiotics are generally considered safe for adults and children, some people may experience negative side effects. Probiotics can cause gas, bloating, and stomach discomfort, and they should probably not be used by pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems (NIH, 2011). Probiotics may also interact with antibiotics and immunosuppressants, so consult a doctor before using probiotics when on other medications (NIH, 2011).

Vitamin D and the Sun

Vitamin D can be found naturally in some seafood, but it is often added to fruit juices and grain products. Most people get the vast majority of their vitamin D from the sun, which helps the body produce its own. It is essential for bone health, and is also used to promote heart, circulatory, skin, lung, oral, muscle, and immune health (NIH, 2012). Many people do not have adequate levels of vitamin D in their systems, especially during the winter (Holick, 2006). Vitamin D deficiency can cause rickets and other health problems.

Vitamin D: Just the Evidence

According to the National Institutes of health, vitamin D is “possibly effective” at preventing respiratory infections (NIH, 2012). There is currently insufficient evidence to determine whether vitamin D really prevents or treats the common cold. Some research indicate that vitamin D supplementation has antiviral effects (Cannell & Hollis, 2008), but not enough is known about its antiviral strength to use it to specifically target cold, flu, or other viruses (Khoo, et al., 2012; Yamshchikov, Desai, Blumberg, Ziegler, & Tangpricha, 2009). In general, adequate vitamin D levels may help prevent respiratory problems like the common cold (Cannell, et al., 2006), but it has not been studied enough regarding treatment to comment on its remedy power.

The Downside of Vitamin D and Sunshine

Most people are not at risk of getting too much vitamin D. In high doses, however, vitamin D supplements can cause fatigue, weakness, nausea and vomiting, headache, metallic taste, and loss of appetite. Vitamin D supplementation can also have a negative interaction with certain medications for the heart, kidneys, blood pressure, and other health conditions (NIH, 2012). Always check with a physician before beginning vitamin D supplementation in combination with any other medication. Side effects from safe sun exposure for vitamin D are typically mild. Extended or excessive exposure to the sun can cause a number of other problems, such as sunburn, skin damage, heat exhaustion, vomiting, and even skin cancer.

Camphor, Eucalyptus, and Menthol

Camphor, eucalyptus, and menthol are often combined in ointments and medicines. Camphor is often used in topical pain relievers and muscle ache creams. Eucalyptus leaf or oil is used both as a food flavoring and in many medicinal applications. Eucalyptus is used to treat breathing problems, pain and inflammation, burns and ulcers, and even cancer. Menthol can be used as flavoring in lozenges for sore throats and coughs or as a soothing ingredient in anti-itch creams and medications for the mouth. The three are often combined in over-the-counter ointments used for nasal congestion and cough suppression (NIH, 2012).

Camphor, Eucalyptus, and Menthol: Just the Evidence

Although these three ingredients effectively relieve the sensation of a stuffy nose in many people, there is insufficient evidence to suggest that they effectively treat cold symptoms (Burrow, Eccles, & Jones, 1983; Eccles, 2003). Eucalyptus may also help break up mucus and ease congestion (NIH, 2012). These ingredients provide a cooling, soothing sensation, but their effect on inflammation in the nose and throat is unclear (Meltzer, Caballero, Fromer, Krouse, & Scadding, 2010). Many people do report temporary relief of certain symptoms, but there is not enough evidence to suggest that these three ingredients effectively treat or shorten colds. There is no evidence to suggest that these ingredients prevent colds.

The Downside of Camphor, Eucalyptus, and Menthol

These three ingredients are not recommended for long-term use or excessive use during colds. Too much skin or oral exposure can cause camphor or menthol overdose or poisoning, especially in children (NIH, 2011; NIH, 2012). Eucalyptus can also cause negative side effects; it should not be used in combination with other herbal remedies and a large number of medications because of potentially toxic interactions (NIH, 2012). Eucalyptus may result in nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea in some people. Oral overdoses of these remedies can result in death. Children and pregnant women should not use cold remedies containing these ingredients.

High Lactoferrin Whey Protein

Whey protein is naturally found in milk products. It is easily digested by most people and commonly used as a supplement to promote muscle growth and even prevent diabetes (Mayo Clinic, 2011). Recently acclaimed for its anti-inflammatory and allergy prevention properties, high lactoferrin whey protein is also believed to boost the immune system and hold antiviral properties (Roxas & Jurenka, 2007).

High Lactoferrin Why Protein: Just the Evidence

Research has begun to promote high lactoferrin whey protein for its anti-inflammatory capacity and antiviral potential (Conneely, 2001; Vareille, Kieninger, Edwards, & Regamey, 2011). Other research also indicates that milk and its lactoferrin protein may help prevent a variety of viral infections (Arnold, et al., 2002; Krissansen, 2007) and promote immune system strength (Berlutti, et al., 2011). Despite some research in its favor, there is not yet enough evidence to suggest that high lactoferrin whey protein supplements are effective at preventing the common cold. There is no evidence to help determine its cold symptom treatment potential at this time.

The Downside of High Lactoferrin Whey Protein

People with milk allergies or sensitivities may suffer severe allergic reactions to whey protein supplements. Whey protein can also cause changes in blood pressure, blood sugar levels, medication effects, bleeding, and the effects of other herbs and supplements (Mayo Clinic, 2011). Infants and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take whey protein supplements unless advised to do so by a doctor. Whey supplements are not recommended for long-term use, as they can cause kidney damage and bone loss. In adults without allergies, whey protein supplements are considered safe for short-term use.

Elderberry (Sambucus Nigra)

There are many varieties of elderberry plants, but European Elder (Sambucus nigra) is most often used to treat pain, swelling, skin problems, infections, fevers, constipation, and coughs (NCCAM, 2010). It is also used in its cooked form in syrups, drinks, and as a flavoring for foods. The dried flowers or cooked berries are also used in teas, capsule supplements, and liquid extracts.

Elderberry: Just the Evidence

Limited scientific evidence suggests that elderberry may have antiviral properties and the ability to fight strains of the influenza virus (Roxas & Jurenka, 2007; Zakay-Rones, Thom, Wollan, & Wodstein, 2004). It may also benefit the immune system to help fight the symptoms and the duration of viral infections (Barak, Halperin, & Kalickman, 2001; Barak, Birkenfeld, Halperin, & Kalickman, 2002). Despite the promising evidence for its assistance in cold symptom relief, there is not enough evidence to suggest that elderberry (in any form) is effective at preventing colds.

The Downside of Elderberry

The uncooked berries of the elder plant can be toxic, causing severe diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting (NCCAM, 2010). In addition, the flowers of the plant can cause diarrhea and stomach upset in some people. It is not recommended for use in children or pregnant women. Always ask a physician about elderberry extract or supplementation before use, as it may interact negatively with some medications.

Olive Leaf Extract (Olea Europea)

Olive leaf extract is taken from the leaves of the olive tree. Extract from the olive leaves has long been used medicinally for respiratory illness, asthma, arthritis, high blood pressure, eczema, and other problems (Braun, 2005). Research is increasingly examining olive leaf for its powerful medicinal properties.

Olive Leaf Extract: Just the Evidence

There is insufficient evidence to claim olive leaf extract is effective at preventing or treating colds. It has been shown in a few studies to reduce the infectivity of viruses and to stimulate the immune system’s response to infection (Micol, et al., 2005; Roxas & Jurenka, 2007). Different forms of the leaves may also be anti-inflammatory, which may aid in decongestion (Eidi, Moghadam-kia, Moghadam, Eidi, & Rezazadeh, 2012; El & Karakaya, 2009). Little or no research has been performed linking olive leaf extract use to the prevention or treatment of the common cold.

The Downside of Olive Leaf Extract

Although olive leaf extract has not been well evaluated for side effects in humans, manufacturers cite a variety of possible negative reactions. Side effects from use of the extract may result in stomach discomfort, flu-like symptoms, headache, vomiting, and diarrhea. Although olive leaf extract is generally believed to be safe, pregnant women and children are advised to avoid its use except under a physician’s supervision.

Herbal Over The Counter (OTC) Cold Remedies

Because of strong medicinal qualities found in many natural cold remedies, many pharmaceutical products use herbal extracts as the active ingredients in their medications. The drugs listed below are considered homeopathic remedies that are not subject to standard clinical trials and pharmaceutical standards. Because of this, these products may have unregulated ingredients or less reliable manufacturing processes than standard pharmaceuticals.

he Cold-EEZE brand offers a variety of over-the-counter products claiming to relieve symptoms and shorten the duration of the common cold (, 2012). The active ingredient in their lozenges and oral spray is zincum gluconicum. Because they are considered homeopathic remedies, the FDA does not evaluate Cold-EEZE products for safety or efficacy. Because of their zinc content, they may cause side effects such as upset stomach or metallic taste. In clinical studies, Cold-EEZE products have been shown to reduce the frequency and duration of colds in users (McElroy & Miller, 2002; McElroy & Miller, 2003).

Boiron Oscillococcinum

Boiron Oscillococcinum (Oscillo) pellets are marketed as homeopathic relief for aches, chills, and fevers. The active ingredient is a diluted extract of Muscovy duck heart and liver. There are several promising studies promoting Oscillococcinum’s ability to fight (but not prevent) flu-like symptoms (Vickers & Smith, 2000; Vickers & Smith, 2004; Vickers & Smith 2006). Despite this evidence, a California class action lawsuit has been filed to protest the apparent false claims of Boiron, Inc. The suit has been filed because tests of the product revealed too little of the active ingredient in the product to be clinically effective (Barrett, 2011; Holter, 2011). No verdict or settlement has yet been achieved. Further research is still necessary before Oscillococcinum (especially at doses present in the actual product) can be considered effective for the prevention and treatment of flu-like symptoms and infections (Merrari, Terzan, & Chaufferin, 2012). Please note that this product is not marketed for the common cold, and has not been tested against the viruses that cause the common cold.

Similasan Cold and Mucus Relief

Similasan offers a homeopathic cold and flu relief medicine for children that is supposed to relieve cough, fever, chills, and congestion (, 2011). Its active ingredients include antimonium sulphuratum aureum, kali iodatum, and senega officianalis. These compounds are used to promote the thinning and loosening of mucus, the prevention of coughing, the relief of fever, and the treatment of chest and nasal congestion (NIH, 2011). There is only limited scientific evidence that Similasan cold and mucus products or any of its active ingredients are effective at treating symptoms of the common cold (Fischer, et al., 2011; Van, et al., 2009).

Airborne, Inc. offers a variety of natural products designed to support the immune system ( 2012). They contain vitamins A, C, and E as well as zinc, a herbal blend (containing ginger, Echinacea, and other herbs), selenium, magnesium, manganese, and an amino acid blend. Ingredients in the supplement have been shown to support immune system function and resistance to infection to varying degrees. There is no scientific evidence that the Airborne nutritional supplements themselves prevent or treat the common cold. In fact, their former advertising claims about cold prevention and treatment resulted in a lawsuit for false advertising; the company can no longer make unsubstantiated claims of this nature (FTC, 2008).

The supplements are unlikely to cause negative side effects beyond those expected from use of its separate ingredients. However, several of the active ingredients in Airborne supplements may interact with medications; always consult a physician before supplementing your diet with Airborne to prevent or treat infections.

American firefighter tweets to let burn down the Islamic Center in Houston

aOn Friday morning, part of the Quba Islamic Institute in Houston went up in flames, and local firefighters spent over an hour battling the blaze before extinguishing it, saving the institute’s school and mosque. The building set ablaze, which stored religious books, was completely destroyed, and came after the center’s staff chased off a masked man from the premises earlier this week.

Houston officials believe the fire was set intentionally, and many are calling for this to be investigated as a hate crime. Unfortunately, the hate which likely ignited this fire wasn’t just contained to the blaze, for as news of the fire spread, a retired Houston-area firefighter who still volunteers for Crystal Beach Fire & Rescue posted the following:

Dustin Herron:  Let it burn… block the fire hydrant.. 6 minutes ago . Like . Reply

This arson attack happened in the wake of the execution of three Muslim-Americans in Chapel Hill, a likely hate crimewhich has shaken a Muslim-American community already reeling from an uptick in anti-Muslim hate crimes and speech since the premier of American Sniper.Of course, this uptick must be placed within the backdrop of growing Islamophobia which continues to spread throughout American society since 9/11. Indeed, in the 13 years since 9/11, anti-Muslim hate crimes have been occurring at a steady and alarming rate. Today, Muslim-Americans are five times more likely to be targeted for such a crime than before the “war on terror” and the Islamophobia which now runs rampant in America.

Graphic via Washington Post.

The figures shown above are believed to be drastically underrepresented, since reporting is voluntary and the Muslim-American community is deeply wary of law enforcement. Is it any wonder, given that innocent Muslim citizens and communities have been the target of illegalspying and surveillance by U.S. police and are routinely profiled on the streets and in airports?Muslim-Americans in Houston, shaken by this attack, were already shaken not just by the Chapel Hill shooting, but by the bigoted rush of white Americans arguing that the execution of three Muslim-Americans was really just about a parking dispute. They were already shaken because they know to be true what family of the victims understand: that this wasn’t about parking, but the same hatred which ignited their place of worship in Houston. They were already shaken by the brutality of the crime in Chapel Hill — leaked information indicates the three young citizens were lined up on the ground, kneeling, and shot in the back of their heads execution style. And they were already shaken knowing that, had a Muslim perpetrated this crime, it would have been proclaimed a terror attack.

Erica Williams Simon addressed this hate in a spot-on commentary on the ‘parking dispute’ fervor:

I want to someday live in a world where, when a senseless thing like this happens, thinking that bias was the cause seems as absurd as a parking dispute. I want to live in a world where we all feel the safety, community and love that 19-year-oldAbu-Salha felt when she told public radio in an interview last summer: “It doesn’t matter where you come from. There’s so many different people from so many different places of different backgrounds and religions. But here we’re all one — one culture.”But until that day, crimes that look, smell and feel like hate will continue to be called hate by those who regularly experience hate. And for those who don’t understand that experience, a simple suggestion:

As investigators work to solve the crime, do something to solve the hate. Actively work to change the unwelcoming, dangerous and prejudiced society that Muslim Americans – and many others – live and die in every single day. That will be an honor to these victims. That will be an honor to us all.

The first thing we must do to ‘solve the hate’ is to admit, loudly and fervently, that this hate exists. And that this hatredis perpetrated by thethe dehumanization of Muslim-Americans in the media, on the screen, and in society at large.Only then will Mosques stop burning.

What is Valentine’s day? — The Seedy, Scandalous History of Valentine’s Day

Forget roses, chocolates and candlelight dinners. On Valentine’s Day, that’s rather boring stuff — at least according to ancient Roman standards.

Imagine half-naked men running through the streets, whipping young women with bloodied thongs made from freshly cut goat skins. Although it might sound like some sort of perverted sadomasochistic ritual, this is what the Romans did until A.D. 496.

Mid-February was Lupercalia (Wolf Festival) time. Celebrated on Feb. 15 at the foot of the Palatine Hill beside the cave where, according to tradition, the she-wolf had suckled Romulus and Remus, the festival was essentially a purification and fertility rite.

Directed by the Luperci, or “brothers of the wolf,” the festival began with the sacrifice of two male goats and a dog, their blood smeared on the faces of Luperci initiates and then wiped off with wool dipped in milk.

As thongs were cut from the sacrificed goats, the initiates would run around in the streets flagellating women to promote fertility.

Finally, in 496, Pope Gelasius I banned the wild feast and declared Feb. 14 as St. Valentine’s Day.

But who was St. Valentine? Mystery surrounds the identity of the patron saint of lovers.

Indeed, such was the confusion that the Vatican dropped St. Valentine’s Day from the Catholic Church calendar of saints in the 1960s.

There were at least three men by the name Valentine in the A.D. 200s, and all died horrible deaths.

One was a priest in the Roman Empire who helped persecuted Christians during the reign of Claudius II. As he was imprisoned, he restored the sight of a blind girl, who fell in love with him. He was beheaded on Feb. 14.

Another was the pious bishop of Terni, also tortured and beheaded during Claudius II’s reign.

A third Valentine secretly married couples, ignoring Claudius II’s ban of marriage. When the priest of love was eventually arrested, legend has it that he fell deeply in love with his jailer’s daughter.

Before his death by beating and decapitation, he signed a farewell note to her: “From your Valentine.”

Apart from legend, the first connection between romance and Feb. 14 goes back to Geoffrey Chaucer (1340?-1400), the English poet and author of The Canterbury Tales.

In his poem “Parliament of Fowls” (1382), Chaucer suggested that St. Valentine’s Day was the time when birds chose their mates.

“For this was Seynt Valentyne’s Day. When every foul cometh ther to choose his mate,” he wrote.

Some 33 years later, Duke Charles of Orleans wrote what is considered the oldest known valentine in existence.

Imprisoned in the Tower of London after being captured by the English, in 1415 the French nobleman wrote his wife, Bonne d’Armagnac, a rhyming love letter, which is now part of the manuscript collection in the British Library in London.

The first two lines of the poem were:

“Je suis déjà d’amour tanné. Ma très douce Valentinée.” (I am already sick with love, My very gentle Valentine).

It was an intense but unfortunate love: Bonne d’Armagnac may never have seen him again. She died before Charles’ return to France in 1440.

Islamic valentines day- buy your chocolates together with a condom

JAKARTA: Indonesia’s top Islamic clerical body threatened Friday to issue a fatwa against the sale of condoms following reports that the contraceptives were being sold together with chocolate to mark Valentine’s Day.

Pictures of chocolate bars packaged with condoms have been published in newspapers and circulated on social media in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country in recent days.

The Indonesian Council of Ulema’s chairman Ma’ruf Amin said that the body was investigating the reports, adding that it was against the sale of condoms as they “provide opportunities for people to engage in pre-marital sex”.

“The sale of condoms has led to prostitution and free sex,” he told AFP.

“We have long rejected the condomisation of our society.”

He added that if the reports were true, “it is very possible that we will issue a fatwa restricting the sale of condoms freely in this country”.

Reports said that shops in Malang, on the main island of Java, were selling the condom-chocolate offerings, and authorities in other cities launched raids on stores in search of the items.

Muslim clerics across Indonesia have warned against celebrating Valentine’s Day, which falls Saturday.

They regard it as a Western celebration that promotes sex, alcohol and drug use.

Around 90 percent of Indonesia’s 250 million people are Muslim, but the vast majority practise a moderate form of the religion.

Chapel Hill shooting.. No parking space crime- Twitter publishes it

The following article by Mashaal Mir of THE INDEPENDENT newspaper exposes the hypocrisy of the western media.

Friday 13 February 2015
Chapel Hill shooting: Would the media have covered the tragedy if Twitter didn’t exist, and what would have happened if the murderer was Muslim?
They might have caught up eventually, but there are still two big ‘what ifs’ that shame the western media’s response

The murder of three young American Muslims in Chapel Hill has spent shockwaves throughout the world, especially among its Muslim community.
The murder of Deah Barakat, Yusor and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha by Craig Hicks has reopened many wounds for American Muslims who already feel targeted. They’re upset because nobody really cared about this story until it trended on Twitter, and because of the slow response by the western media and the silence from politicians. But most of all, they’re upset because they feel Muslim lives do not matter in the West.

If you’re unsure about this, and think that the media’s response to the shooting was completely legitimate, then let me run through a couple of hypothetical scenarios.

  1. What if Twitter didn’t exist?
The question is not “if” the mainstream media was covering the story, as they did eventually. The question is: would they have cared to cover it had Twitter not publicly shamed them for their silence?

I work in the media, yet didn’t even hear of the story until I logged on to Twitter to see #ChapelHillShooting trending worldwide. There was tweet after tweet bashing media outlets for ignoring the possibility that it could have been a hate crime.

Three Muslims shot in the head by man who, alongside posts attacking various other religions, had written anti-Muslim and anti-Islam sentiments on social media. Yet for hours there were only two or three news outlets giving the tragedy any attention.

So what if Twitter didn’t exist? What would have happened?

Not much.

Local media would have reported it, as they did. The story would have perhaps, and that’s a strong perhaps, made it on to a national news bulletin.

But it would have died down quickly and the names of the victims may never have echoed beyond Chapel Hill. And the widely held narrative that “only Muslims kill innocent people over religion” would have continued to march on, completely uncontested by the truth.

  1. What if the murderer was a Muslim?
Would the initial response by the western media and politicians been the same if it was a middle-aged Muslim man who fatally shot three non-Muslims execution-style in their own home? A Muslim man who had posted extreme views about atheists and other faiths on his social media, as well as photos of loaded guns?

Absolutely not.

You know it and I know it. Everyone knows it. We’d have CNN and a whole panel of middle-aged men analysing every single aspect of the story with Wolf Blitzer faster than you can say ‘ratings’.

A Muslim shooter would mean a demand for condemnation, a demand for discussions on Islam, a demand for Muslims to reform, to assimilate, to take collective responsibility. We may even be graced with a little gathering of politicians.

We would see, as we did following the attacks on Charlie Hebdo, a spike in attacks on mosques and Muslims. Polls would show a higher percentage of the population suspicious, distrusting and with more negative views towards Muslims.

A non-Muslim shooter? Different story.

And this is exactly why we need to have a conversation on the Chapel Hill murders. Muslims are seemingly only worthy of anyone’s attention when they are the perpetrators of heinous crimes, not victims of it.

There are 1.5bn Muslims in the world, and just like white atheists shouldn’t be forced to apologise now for one maniac, neither should we. But recognising this isn’t enough on its own. We also need to change the way we talk about Muslims, because their lives matter just as much as anyone else’s, and we must never forget that.

Countering extremism: City admin told to remove hate material from shops

ISLAMABAD: An intelligence agency has asked the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Administration to take action against shops selling hate material. According to  an official of capital administration requesting not to be named, the agency has written a letter to Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Mujahid Sherdil drawing his attention to bookshops in the capital which sell books containing sectarian hate material. While naming the books, their writers and publishers, the agency has asked the district administration to confiscate the books to help overcome extremist and sectarian hatred being spread though such literature, said the official on the condition of anonymity. According to the list, available with The Express Tribune, the agency has pointed out 13 books which are available at, among others shops, Maktaba Rasheedia Lal Masjid, Mr Books Islamabad and Old Book City. Of the 13 books, seven books are on sale at Maktaba Rasheedia Lal Masjid, three at outdoor stalls in Golra Sharif, two at Mr Books and one at Old Book City. The books filled with hate material include ‘Bermuda Tikon aur Dajjal’, written by Asim Umer, published by Al Hamra Urdu Bazaar Lahore, ‘Wahabi Mazhab Ki Haqeeqat’, written by Ziaullah Qadri, published by Maktaba Qadria  Sialkot, ‘Shamsheer-e-Beniyaam’ by Inayatullah, published by Ilm-o-Irfan Publishers, Urdu Bazaar, Lahore, ‘Ghunyatul Talibeen’ by Allama Abdul Hakeem, published by Muhammad Tayyeb Sons, Urdu Bazaar Lahore, ‘Sultan-e-Karbala’ by Qari Faizul Mustafa Atique, published by Maktaba Nooria Rizvia Faisalabad, ‘Tasfia Mabain Sunni-Shia’, written by Pir Syed Mehr Ali Shah of Golra, published by Printing Professionals, ‘Mah-e-Muharram ke  Fazail’, written by Mufti Rizwan, published by Idara Ghufram Rawalpindi, ‘Kya Pakistan Toot Jayega’, written by Haq Nawaz Jan Ali, published by Tahir Sons Urdu Bazaar Lahore, ‘Bilakhir Kia Hoga’, written by  Abdul Rehman, published by M Habib Qarni, ‘Islamic Inquilab Ki Koshish Kyun Farz’, written by  Syed Muhammad Iqbal, published by Maktaba Jamia Rasheedia. ‘Jamhooriat Aik Purfraib Taghooti Nizam’, written by Syed Muhammad Iqbal, published by Maktaba Jamia Rasheedia, and ‘Dehshatgardi Ke Addey Ya Khair Ke Marakiz’, written by Anwar Ghazi, published by Al-Hijaz Printers. Interestingly, all these books are also available on the internet but the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has not blocked access to such material. According to the source, after receiving the letter, the deputy commissioner has asked the Senior Superintendent of Special Branch Waqar Chauhan and assistant commissioners to confirm the details in the document and submit a report today (January 23). The source claimed that, if proven, strict action will be taken against the booksellers, publishers and the authors. A senior ICT Administration official said that under the National Action Plan, reports were being gathered from all police stations and other sources to determine if any groups or individuals were actively involved in spreading hatred and animosity. Security analyst Muhammad Amir Rana said that hate material in print form was more powerful than the content available, as, according to him, the audience for such material on the internet was far less than the audience for printed material. He also called for forming committees at the local level to help the administration address the issue. Published in The Express Tribune, January 23rd, 2015.

O Allah! Bestow blessings upon Sayyidina Muhammad, our Master and his Family, such blessings by means of which Thou may relieve us of all anxieties and calamities. Thou may satisfy all our needs. Thou may clean us of all evils and thanks for which Thou may grant us high position and high rank and status in Thy presence, and Thou may lead us to the utmost limit of our aspirations and capacity in whatever is best in this world as well as in the world Hereafter, as Thou has the full Power over everything

This darood is free from all words of Shirk and has been highly recommended by the Scholars of Ahele Sunnah Wal Jamath. All the Saints of Allah have unanimously given verdict that Durood-e-Tunajjina is the best cure of all ills and all calamities of this world. The virtues of this Darood are beyond human comprehension, InsahaAllah, the following are few of its known benefits:
1. This Darood is the best cure of all ills/plagues/diseases and all calamities/difficulties/hardships of this world.
2. All the worldly needs and needs of hereafter will be fulfilled.
3. One will receive and will be gifted with High Status, Position and Success in both the worlds.
4. The reciter will be protected by Allah from all the Evils(evil men/jin, blackmagic, nazar, sickness..etc) of this world and the hereafter.
5. NO enemies or evil creatures will overpower the reciter and the reciter will be always a winner against them.
6. All the blessings and virtues of reciting darood will be bestowed upon the reciter.

The great Scholar, Saint, Jurist and author, Imam ibn-Faikihani[AR] says that there was once a pious man called Sheikh Moosa Zareer[AR] who was blind and had narrated his own story: “I was in a ship which was sinking. I lapsed into semi consciousness. Rasoolullah (S.A.W.) appeared to me in this state and taught me the following Durood which he said should be recited a thousand times by the passengers of the ship. The passengers had barely recited the Durood 300 times and the ship was saved (miraculously). The other ship on the high seas sank, but this ship reached its destination safely and soundly. This miracle was a sufficient eye-opener for the members of the ship.”

Durood-e-Tunjjina should be recited a thousand times at the time of any hardship or calamity. (Zaadus Saeed, by Hakeemul Ummah Moulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi[AR], Page 14). Other saints have advised to recite this Durood Shareef 70 times during days of calamity, turmoil and troubled and InshaAllah, it will work wonders.

Method of Recitation
1. Make sure the house in which it is recited is free and clean from dolls, statues, painting, pictures, magazines, papers of or containing living creatures, and also free from bells and musical instruments, dogs, amulets and other things disallowed by the Shariah, InshaAllah, this will make our amal/dua maqbool or successful.
2. Put on clean clothes and make wadhu[ablution] with concentration.
3. Auzubillaah hi Mi-nash Shyataan Ir-rajeem BisMillaah Ir-rah-maan Ir-ra-heem -3x
4. Istiqfar – ‘Astaghfirullaaha wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi -3x or more
5. Make an Intention for the purpose of the recitation.
6. Recite DUROOD-E-TUNAJJINA 21x, 41x, 70x,100x, 300x or 1000x
7. Make Dua –YA ALLAH YA HAYYU YA QAYYUM YA ZAL JALAALI WAL IKRAM YA ARHAMAR RAHEMEEN, Please fulfill all my valid needs ……………………………………………………………………………………………
Note: (1)A group of people can sit together and recite for higher counts, with a common intention and for a common purpose. (2) InshaALlah, if recited during Tahajjud will produce amazing results as tahajjud is the time when Allah’s Mercy and Blessings are at its best.

To Break the Effects of Black magic or witchcraft or Jinn the victim should recite this at-least 21x or 41x daily consistently for few days[or until things get normal] without any gaps and after every recital blow 3x into water with full force and drink it 3x times a day and also rub the recited water all over his body and sprinkle some on all the walls of the house ignoring the toilets, InshaAllah the effects of Blackmagic/Jinns will be broken and all evil jinns involved in sihir will leave in no time.

One can also make it a practice of reciting it 1x or 3x times after every Fardh salaat or atleast recite it 3x to 7x times after fajar and magrib, as Darood-e-Tunjjina itself is a very beautiful and very powerful dua, that will address all our needs of this world and the hereafter.

Beets can fight cancer, reduce blood pressure and more

by Michael Ravensthorpe

(NaturalNews) The taproot of the beet plant has a long history of use as a medicine. The ancient Romans, for example, would consume beets to treat fevers and constipation. In the Middle Ages, Europeans would turn to these red-colored roots to remedy illnesses related to blood and digestion. And ancient Chinese medicine, which has always held cooling and sweet vegetables in high regard, still prescribes beets for individuals suffering from cardiovascular conditions.(1)

Like many colorful vegetables, beets are not an especially great source of essential vitamins and minerals. Instead, their health benefits are attributable to their rich concentrations of some truly special compounds.

Three amazing compounds in beets

Betanin — Ever wondered why beets are red? That’s because they’re one of the greatest sources of betanin, a red-violet pigment with proven disease-fighting properties. For example, a 2011 study published in the journal Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry found that both doxorubicin (a popular anti-cancer medicine used in drugs like Adriamycin) and red beetroot extracts exhibited a chemopreventive effect in human breast and prostate cancer cell lines. The researchers ascribed this benefit to beets’ high concentrations of betanin, one of the best-known pigments in the group betalains.(2)

Betaine — Another betalain found in beets, called betaine, is known to aid liver function. A new study featured in the journal Amino Acids in January 2015, for instance, found that rats fed a high-fat diet supplemented with betaine demonstrated reduced fat accumulated in the liver, and improved lipid metabolism, when compared to rats fed a control diet or high-fat diet without betaine supplements.(3) These results suggest that beets can help treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, a common but reversible liver condition linked to excess body weight.

Nitrates — Though nitrates have acquired a negative reputation in recent years due to their association with cured meats and other processed foods, naturally-occurring nitrates — found in vegetables such as spinach, radishes and beets — actually have medicinal benefits when consumed in moderation. For example, a study conducted by researchers at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, Australia, found that volunteers who consumed beet juice experienced a considerable reduction in blood pressure when compared to the control group. The lead researcher, Leah Coles, attributed this result to the juice’s high concentrations of dietary nitrates.(4)

Other nutrients in beets

While beets are not rich in conventional nutrients compared to, say, leafy green vegetables, they are still a good source of certain minerals. One cup of raw beets, for instance, supplies us with approximately 37 percent of our recommended daily allowance (RDA) of folate, 22 percent of our RDA of manganese and 13 percent of our RDA of potassium, an important macromineral responsible for regulating water balance. Beets are also packed with both soluble and insoluble fiber, making them suitable for treating constipation and as part of a weight loss diet.(5)

Selecting and cooking beets

When selecting beets, aim for organic varieties that are firm and free from spots, bruises and wet patches. Shriveled beets should also be avoided, since this indicates that the roots are aged and tough.

Since many of the compounds in beets (including the betalains) are damaged by heat, it’s important to cook beets lightly. Gently steaming beets for around 15 minutes should be enough to enhance their flavor without compromising their nutrient profile.(6)

Flu shot hoax admitted: “No controlled trials demonstrating a decrease in influenza”

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) The flu shot is a fraud. But it’s a fraud that’s so deeply embedded in the delusional pro-vaccine culture of the pharma-controlled medical industry that even well-meaning doctors and pharmacists (who are otherwise very intelligent) fail to realize flu shots don’t work. In fact, flu shot vaccine inserts openly admit there is no scientific evidence demonstrating flu shots work. See the vaccine insert photos below for proof.

This is probably why people who receive the flu shot almost never receive the insert sheet. It’s not handed out by doctors and pharmacists because they don’t want people to realize the extent of the pseudoscience behind the flu shot scam. It’s so much easier to demand blind obedience while screaming “SCIENCE!” than to actually allow people to read the science and realize the science conclusively states there is “…no decrease in influenza disease after vaccination.”

In fact, most people who have taken flu shots aren’t even aware that an insert sheet exists at all.

Ever wonder what it says?

NOTE: Every photo in this article is 100% factual and true. Ask your pharmacist for a vaccine insert sheet to see one of these for yourself.

Insert sheet acquired for GlaxoSmithKline’s FLULAVAL flu shot

In the interests of public safety and journalistic inquiry — I’m a multiple award-winning journalist, after all — I acquired a FLULAVAL flu shot vial and insert sheet for the 2014 flu shot, and I read through the microscopic insert text using a magnifier.

Here’s a photo of the FLULAVAL vial and box in which the insert was found. Note that this photo clearly shows the flu shot label admitting the shot contains “thimerosal as a preservative.” Thimerosal is made from toxic mercury.

But there’s much more in this insert…

“No decrease in influenza disease” after vaccination

Read the language in the following photo of the FLULAVAL vaccine insert very carefully.

It says:

FLULAVAL is a vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease… but doesn’t ever claim the vaccine actually works.

In the very next bullet point, the vaccine insert admits:

…there have been no controlled trials adequately demonstrating a decrease in influenza disease after vaccination with FLULAVAL.

In other words, GlaxoSmithKline confirms there is no evidence to back this flu shot.

Got that? Amazing, isn’t it? Especially given how many people scream about flu shots being “SCIENTIFIC!” and backed by “EVIDENCE!”

It turns out that if you want protection from the flu, you might get the very same results by rubbing a lucky rabbit’s foot or hopping around your living room in some sort of “anti-flu dance.” All of these — the flu shot, the rabbit’s foot and the anti-flu dance — are backed by the same amount of scientific evidence.

“Safety and effectiveness not established”

There’s even more. If you keep reading the FLULAVAL insert, it says in black and white text, “Safety and effectiveness of FLULAVAL in pediatric patients have not been established.”

The same insert also says, “FLULAVAL have not been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential, or for impairment of fertility.”

As you can also see, this same insert also explains that when you’re being injected with a flu shot, you’re also being injected with mercury, formaldehyde and other toxic ingredients:

“Thimerosal, a mercury derivative, is added as a preservative. Each … dose contains 50 mcg thimerosal. Each dose may also contain residual amounts of ovalbumin, formaldehyde, and sodium deoxycholate from the manufacturing process.”

Toxic side effects include facial paralysis and more

If you keep reading the FLULAVAL vaccine insert, you’ll eventually get to a section called “Postmarketing Experience.”

This subhead means here are all the side effects reported by actual users after being vaccinated. In other words, these are the results of turning the human population into vaccine guinea pigs.

Just some of the adverse effects experienced after flu shot vaccines include:

• Eye pain and chest pain
• Arthritis
• Dizziness, tremors and losing consciousness (syncope)
• Convulsions and seizures
• Gullain-Barre Syndrome
• Cranial nerve paralysis or limb paralysis
• Swelling of the brain
• Partial facial paralysis
… and much more. See the text yourself:

Here’s a more complete list of some of the adverse effects typically listed on flu shot vaccine insert sheets:

Blood and Lymphatic System Disorders: Lymphadenopathy.

Eye Disorders: Eye pain, photophobia.

Gastrointestinal Disorders: Dysphagia.

General Disorders and Administration Site Conditions: Chest pain, injection site inflammation, asthenia, injection site rash, abnormal gait, injection site bruising, injection site sterile abscess.

Immune System Disorders: Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, angioedema.

Infections and Infestations: Rhinitis, laryngitis, cellulitis.

Musculoskeletal and Connective Tissue Disorders: Muscle weakness, arthritis.

Nervous System Disorders: Dizziness, paresthesia, hypoesthesia, hypokinesia, tremor, somnolence, syncope, Guillain-Barre syndrome, convulsions/seizures, facial or cranial nerve paralysis, encephalopathy, limb paralysis.

Psychiatric Disorders: Insomnia.

Respiratory, Thoracic, and Mediastinal Disorders: Dyspnea, dysphonia, bronchospasm, throat tightness.

Skin and Subcutaneous Tissue Disorders: Urticaria, pruritus, sweating.

Vascular Disorders: Flushing, pallor.

“Do not administer FLULAVAL to anyone…”

If you go on to read this entire insert, which is quite lengthy and very difficult for any normal person to read, here’s what else it says:

“Safety and effectiveness of Flulaval have not been established in pregnant women, nursing mothers or children.”

“Do not administer Flulaval to anyone… following previous administration of any influenza vaccine.”

You can confirm all this for yourself by going to any pharmacy and asking for a flu shot insert sheet. While the language printed on the sheet will vary from one manufacturer to another, they all reveal fascinating things like:

• Flu shot ingredients
• Documented flu shot side effects (which always include neurological problems such as seizures)
• Warnings not to give them to children or pregnant women (in most cases)

“No adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women”

One of the FLULAVAL vaccine insert sheets I looked at said the following:

There are, however, no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, FLULAVAL should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed.

What this paragraph says is, essentially, “We have no evidence this is safe in pregnant women, but it’s okay to inject pregnant women with this anyway, as long as they need it.”

And of course the pseudoscience mainstream media is happy to loudly and repeatedly proclaim that all pregnant women “need” the flu shot, a claim founded in nothing but wishy washy junk science and corporate profit motives. So doctors, who obediently inject almost anything into pregnant women as long as Big Pharma tells them it’s okay, are happy to keep poisoning women’s bodies with mercury and formaldehyde even though, as the insert openly admits, “There are, however, no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women.”

How to transform a quack vaccine into “evidence-based medicine”

Keep in mind these vaccine inserts are directly telling you the vaccine isn’t backed by clinical evidence of safety or efficacy. It’s practically claiming, “This vaccine is based on voodoo. Take it at your own risk…”

You may be wondering, then, if a vaccine openly admits it doesn’t work and hasn’t been adequantely tested and contains toxic chemicals, how exactly does this vaccine get sold to the public as “evidence-based medicine” that’s loudly proclaimed to be good for children, infants, pregnant women, senior citizens and everyone else?

It’s simple: THEY LIE.

A medical lie repeated often enough by people in high enough positions of apparent authority will be obediently accepted by the gullible masses. This devious art of lying to the public about vaccines is deeply embedded in the culture thanks to the incessant pro-vaccine propaganda of the mainstream media which asks no question at all about vaccine safety and refuses to discuss vaccine ingredients or neurological side effects, even when they’re printed directly on the vaccine insert.

Most people assume something like, “Well, if it wasn’t proven safe and effective, it wouldn’t be allowed on the market, because the FDA protects us all, right?”

And so they line up their kids to be injected with mercury and formaldehyde and sometimes even stealth cancer viruses which have contaminated vaccines throughout history. Some of those kids have seizures, go into comas or suffer severe neurological damage that turns them into autistic children.

CDC scientist openly admits to vaccine-autism cover-up

This was openly admitted by the CDC’s own top scientist in one of the most aggressively censored medical stories of 2014, where Dr. William Thompson publicly wrote the following admission:

My name is William Thompson. I am a Senior Scientist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, where I have worked since 1998. I regret that my coauthors and I omitted statistically significant information in our 2004 article published in the journal Pediatrics. The omitted data suggested that African American males who received the MMR vaccine before age 36 months were at increased risk for autism. Decisions were made regarding which findings to report after the data were collected, and I believe that the final study protocol was not followed.

This story was wholly and dutifully blacked out by the entire national press, by the way. The fact that the CDC committed scientific fraud related to links between vaccines and autism is something they never want you to learn.

And yet it’s all right in front of you if you’re willing to read the vaccine insert, read the CDC scientist’s own confession and learn a little about the toxicity of mercury.

Chemical-laced vaccine advocates clearly desire to being harm to children

It’s clear from all this that the vaccine industry really does want to harm and destroy children. If vaccine advocates didn’t want to harm children, they would call for the immediate removal of mercury, formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals from all vaccines.

If they wanted, they could advocate “clean vaccines” which contain no toxic chemicals. But they consciously choose not to do this. They really do want the toxic chemicals to be injected into pregnant women and children, and that’s exactly why they demand blind vaccine obedience from the masses. No questions allowed. No rational thinking tolerated. No skepticism of vaccines is “politically correct.”

In fact, the CDC openly admits that mercury, formaldehyde, MSG, aluminum, antibiotics and other chemicals are still used in vaccines. Here’s a screen shot from the CDC website’s vaccine additives page which openly states this:

The same CDC that committed scientific fraud and covered up links between vaccines and autism predictably claims all these toxic chemicals are perfectly safe to be injected into children.

That’s how you know they’re truly evil: When they knowingly commit fraud in order to continue to practice of poisoning human bodies with toxic chemicals, that’s an admission that they actively desire to harm health and destroy lives.

When I once confronted a vaccine pusher with the fact that flu shots contain mercury and that if the same concentration of mercury was found in a vitamin it would be banned by the FDA, that person told me, “Mercury in vitamins makes them dangerous. But mercury in vaccines makes them work better.”

That’s the kind of insane logic you’ll frequently encounter among vaccine pushers / poisoners.

For those who reject pseudoscience vaccines, the state points a gun in your face

When people come to their senses and realize they probably shouldn’t inject themselves and their children with mercury, formaldehyde, aluminum and other toxic vaccine ingredients, they are quickly met with a belligerent medical police state that shoves guns in their faces and demands they comply.

As reported by Police State USA [4], “A state bureaucracy is threatening a mother with removal of an infant unless her entire family subjects themselves to flu shots. The Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is giving the Tacoma family until February to comply with the mandated regimen of influenza vaccines — imposed on every member of the family — or else they will lose their youngest child, a 2-week-old foster infant that was born on Christmas.”

The medical police state, you see, is threatening to carry out yet another medical kidnapping of a foster infant if the entire family doesn’t agree to be obediently injected with toxic chemicals. Click here to read a recent list of medical kidnappings happening in America, many over vaccine issues.

Yes, this is all happening in America… even though it sounds like a story out of a North Korea gulag. Make sure you understand this has nothing whatsoever to do with protecting the foster child. This is about a militant health agency “teaching that woman a lesson” and demanding she sacrifice the health of her entire family as a sign of loyalty.

The Aztecs used to demand families give up their firstborn sons to have their hearts cut out in ritualistic sacrifices to appease their gods. Today, modern medicine follows the same pattern, demanding families sacrifice their health in order to appease the pharma-corrupted bureaucrats, many of whom are pedophiles and child rapists to begin with. Just recently, a top U.S. Health and Human Services executive was sentenced to 25 years in prison after he “accessed child pornography, solicited child pornography from other members, and exchanged private messages with other members in which he expressed an interest in the violent rape and murder of children,” reports

As Mac Slavo explains on

Whether you agree with yearly flu vaccines or not, the following report from Tacoma, Washington should scare the hell out of you because if the government moves forward with their threats then every child in America will effectively become a ward of the state.

A quick summary of the flu shot fraud

• Flu shot vaccine inserts openly admit there is no evidence that flu shots work.

• Flu shots still contain toxic mercury, a potent neurotoxin.

• Flu shot vaccine inserts openly admit flu shots caused seizures, paralysis and other neurological disorders, which is not surprising given that they still contain mercury, a potent neurotoxin.

• Vaccine propaganda is so mindless and aggressive that anyone who merely cites the printed vaccine insert is immediately condemned as “anti-science,” even though the science is perfectly clear that many vaccines are backed by no scientific evidence at all.

• The CDC has altered vaccine safety data in a conspiracy to hide truthful facts about vaccine risks from the public.

• Informed parents who consciously choose to avoid having their children injected with medically useless (but dangerous) vaccines are increasingly criminalized while their children are subjected to medical kidnapping.

• For publishing truthful photos of printed vaccine inserts, Natural News is subjected to heavy censorship in an attempt to make sure the public never learns this information. (That’s why it’s up to you to share this article with others.)

After the first revelation
Because the revelation in the Cave of Hira was the first such experience Rasulullaah (SAW) had ever had, he was naturally frightened.
He therefore hastened home, where he bade his wife Hadhrat Khadeejah رضي الله عنها to cover him. She did so and after he had calmed down somewhat, he related the incident to her. The caring and intelligent woman she was, she consoled him by telling him that Allaah would never cause him any harm because he had always been one who carried out acts of virtue, such as assisting the poor and needy.
Hadhrat Khadeejah رضي الله عنها then accompanied Rasulullaah (SAW) to her cousin Waraqa bin Naufal who was a scholar of the Torah and Injeel.
After Rasulullaah (SAW) had described what had occurred, Waraqa said, ‘This is the same spirit (angel Hadhrat Jibra’eel (AS)) whom Allaah had sent to Moosa (AS). I wish I could be alive to the time when your people would drive you out (of your city).’
‘Will they drive me out?’ Rasulullaah (SAW) asked.
‘Oh yes,’ Waraqa replied, ‘anyone who came with something similar to what you have brought was treated with hostility. If I should remain alive to that day (when you will be driven out), I would give you my most ardent support.’
(2) Allaah’s Power
The elephant
Compared to other animals, Allaah has granted tremendous stature and strength to the elephant. Its legs are like the pillars of buildings and it has ears as large as fans. Amongst its specialities is its large trunk. In a jungle where no machinery and cranes are to be found, the elephant can use its trunk and immense strength to uproot entire trees from the ground. Allaah has created this and other animals to serve the many needs of man.

The validity of all deeds hinge on salaah
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Salaah will be the first of deeds to be reckoned for on the Day of Qiyaamah. If the salaah is in order, all the other deeds will be in order. If not, all will then be found unsuitable.”
[Targheeb wat Tarheeb 516, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Qurt (RA)]

(5) An Important Act and its Virtue
Not facing the Qiblah when sitting in the toilet
Rasulullaah (SAW) stated that when a person ensures that neither his face nor his back is turned towards the Qiblah when relieving himself, a good deed will be recorded to his account of deeds and a sin will be forgiven.
[Tabraani 1375, from Hadhrat Abu Hurayrah (RA)]
(6) A Sin
Failure to pay zakaah
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “The person who fails to pay zakaah is destined for Jahannam.”
[Tabraani in his Sagheer 934, from Hadhrat Anas (RA)]
(7) This World
The consequences of making this world one’s objective
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “When a person becomes Allaah’s, Allaah assumes responsibility for his affairs and grants him sustenance from sources that he cannot fathom. As for the person who bows before the world, Allaah hands him over to the world.”
[Bayhaqi 1090, from Hadhrat Imraan bin Husayn (RA)]
(8) The Aakhirah
The mountains on the Day of Qiyaamah
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “They ask you (O Rasulullaah (SAW)) about the mountains (what will happen to the mountains on the Day of Qiyaamah?).
Say, ‘My Rabb shall completely remove them (shatter them to dust) , leaving the earth as a barren (completely level) plain on which you will neither see any depressions nor any protrusions (with nothing standing above the ground).’”.
[Surah TaaHaa, verses 105-107]
(9) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW)
A cure from fever and other ailments
Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas (RA) reports that Rasulullaah (SAW) taught the Sahabah (RA) to recite the following du’aa when suffering from fever:
بسم الله الكبير
 اعوذ بالله العظيم
من شر كل عرق نعار
ومن شر حر النار
TRANSLATION: I begin in the name of Allaah The Great. I seek the protection of the Glorious Allaah from the evil of every boiling vein and from the evil of the heat of the fire.
[Tirmidhi 2075]
(10) Qur’aanic Advice
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “Verily Allaah and His angels send salaah on the Nabi (SAW) (meaning that Allaah showers special mercies on him and the angels pray for him). O you who have Imaan! Send salaah and Salaam to him (pray to Allaah to shower special mercies and peace on him by reciting the various forms of “Salaah and Salaam” reported in the Ahadeeth)”.

(1) Islaamic History

The command to propagate
Rasulullaah (SAW) continued to visit the Cave of Hira after the first revelation, but after the first five verses of Surah Alaq were revealed, no more revelation came for a while.
Rasulullaah (SAW) was once on the way to the cave when he heard a voice calling. As he turned to look about, but saw no one. When he then looked up, he saw Hadhrat Jibra’eel (AS) sitting upon a platform suspended between the skies and the earth. Rasulullaah (SAW) immediately hurried home, where he covered himself out of fear.
It was then that Allaah revealed the first five verses of Surah Mudathir, which states, “O you wrapped in a blanket. Stand up (among the people) and warn (them about Allaah’s punishment for rejecting Imaan). Announce the greatness of your Rabb (which is a most important element of your message). (When preaching Towheed, mind your appearance and ensure that you) Keep your clothing clean. (External purity complements internal purity.) (In addition to this, also) Stay away from filth (idols and sin, as you have always been doing)”.
Rasulullaah (SAW) then started to call people towards Islaam. Because the Arabs had been steeped in Kufr and Shirk for centuries, it was not possible for Rasulullaah (SAW) to start propagating the message of Islaam openly. Rasulullaah (SAW) therefore started inviting people privately.
The first woman to accept Islaam was Rasulullaah (SAW)’s faithful wife Hadhrat Khadeeja رضي الله عنهما, while the first man to accept Islaam was his childhood friend and business partner Hadhrat Abu Bakr Siddeeq (RA), who immediately said, “I believe and accept” when he was invited.
The first child to accept Islaam was Rasulullaah (SAW)’s cousin Hadhrat Ali (RA), the son of Abu Taalib.
(2) Rasulullaah (SAW)’s Miracle
The du’aa Rasulullaah (SAW) made for Hadhrat Handhala (RA)
Hadhrat Handhala (RA) was still a boy when Rasulullaah (SAW) passed his hand over his head and made du’aa for him.
The effect of this du’aa was such that whenever any person or animal suffered any pain, Hadhrat Handhala (RA) would apply some saliva to his hand, place it upon the place on his head where Rasulullaah (SAW) placed his hand and make du’aa saying, “I take the name of Allaah upon the handprint of Rasulullaah (SAW)”. He would then pass his hand over the affected area and the pain would be alleviated.
[Dalaa’il 2470]
(3) A Fardh
Performing Tayammum when no water is available
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Clean sand is a means of purification for the Muslim even if he does not find water for ten years. Should he then find water, he should pour it over his body (perform wudhu and ghusl).”
[Abu Dawood 332, from Hadhrat Abu Dharr (RA)]
(4) A Sunnah
The du’aa when seeing a Muslim smile
The following du’aa should be recited when seeing a Muslim smile:
اضحك الله سنك
Adhak’Allahu seenak
TRANSLATION: May Allaah always keep you smiling.
[Bukhaari 3294, from Hadhrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqaas (RA)]
(5) An Important Act and its Virtue
Concealing one’s needs from others
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “When a person is hungry or in need and he conceals his need from other (does not ask them for help), Allaah will take it upon Himself to provide him with a year’s supply of Halaal provisions.”
[Shu’abul Imaan 9698, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Abbaas (RA)]
(6) A Sin
Regarding Halaal as Haraam
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “O you who have Imaan! Do not forbid (declare as unlawful) the pure things that Allaah has permitted (made lawful) for you (by regarding something Halaal as Haraam) and do not overstep (do not exceed the limits of the Shari’ah). Surely Allaah does not like those who overstep (exceed limits)”.
[Surah Maa’idah, verse 87]
(7) This World
Allaah’s bounties
Allaah says in the Qur’aan, “This (punishment) is because Allaah will not change (will not take away) any favour that He gave to a nation until they change what is within themselves (until they corrupt their beliefs and actions, thereby inviting Allaah’s punishment, which will cause them to lose all their bounties). Indeed Allaah is All Hearing, All Knowing (He knows the thoughts and actions of every person)”.
[Surah Anfaal, verse 53]
(8) The Aakhirah
The people upon whom Qiyaamah will arrive
Rasulullaah (SAW) said, “Qiyaamah will arrive only upon the worst of people.”
[Muslim 7402, from Hadhrat Abdullaah bin Mas’ood (RA)]
The system of the universe will continue to remain in motion for as long as there is a single person on earth who takes the name of Allaah. However, as soon as no such person is left and the world is occupied only by evil people, Qiyaamah will arrive.
(9) Cures from the Qur’aan and Rasulullaah (SAW)
Cure through the Mu’awwadhatayn
Hadhrat Aa’isha رضي الله عنها reports that when Rasulullaah (SAW) fell ill, he would recite the Mu’awwadhatayn (Surah Falaq and Surah Naas) and blow upon himself.
[Muslim 5715]
(10) Advice from Rasulullaah (SAW)
Rasulullaah (SAW) said that when visiting someone, one should first request permission to enter. If permission is not granted after three requests, one should leave.
[Muslim 5633, from Hadhrat Abu Moosa Ash’ari (RA)]
