Must You Sin ?

Salamu Alaykom wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Everyone has a little something that they have
attached themselves to.

A little sin that they keep repeating.

They toggle between wanting to stop,
between enjoying it (or the benefits of it)
and between
feeling guilty for doing it.

Sometimes,
you’ll feel that you’ve tried every
each way,
that you just can’t get over it.

That it’s stronger than you.

And all of this is actually symptomatic of an
underlying belief:
you think that you need your sin

Say it to yourself:
“I need my sin”

Do you really ?

What would happen if
you did without your sin for
a day ?
What would happen if
you did without it for a week ?
What would happen if
you did without it for a month ?
What about for a year ?

What if you just did without it forever ?

Wouldn’t it be nice to look back and
wonder how you ever did that thing ?
Why on earth did I do that ?

Whether it’s backbiting, smoking,
not lowering your
gaze, lying, cheating, stealing…
whatever it is…

… is it the reason why you survive ?
Is it necessary ?
Must you do it ? Really ?

Regardless of how long you’ve
been attached and< committed to that sin…
you can drop it in a second

Underneath all the desires,
underneath what you
think is you, underneath your mind,
your thoughts, your sensations, your body,
your identity, your name,
your habits, your actions…
underneath ALL of that
is the real you.

Underneath all of that is the
you that needs none of
that.

Underneath all of that is the you
that survives even
after your body dies.

Tazkiyah and purification of the heart
is about
finding that you again.

Either you do so by
releasing your whims and desires,
which makes you realise that
there’s something more
to you than what you know…

Or whether you do it by knowing Allah,
which makes you realise that you’re
more than what you think you are…

.. or you do both at the same time !
